Heres a big destroyer with a lump of firepower, but somewhat lacking in speed.
AeroTech 2 Vessel Technical Readout
VALIDATED

Targeting & Tracking System: Lockheed/CBM Targeting System
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
==Overview:==
The Mirage Class Super Destroyer is devloped by Lockheed/CBM as a bold move
into the Warship industry. The Mirage is expected to compliment the lighter
vessels in the LAAF fleet with its massive firepower.
==Capabilities:==
Drawing the bulk of its firepower from an impressive 14 Heavy Naval PPCs on
either side of the vessel, providing it massive broadside firepower. A mass of
260 Large Pulse Lasers mounted in turrets of 5 guns quickly swat down
fighters, and 40 LAMSes located all around the vessel keep missiles, capital
or standard, from reaching the hull to the best of their ability. 27 Aerospace
Fighters provide an impressive Aerospace compliment. 50 Marines and 8 Battle
Armor Marines protect against boarding.
Carrying a modest 2473.25 tons of cargo and 6 small craft, the Mirage doesn't
carry much in the way of cargo, but, it carries a year of fuel and food and
can serve as a host to 10 dropships, and relies completely on beam weapons.
The extra cargo space is often used to hold munitions for other fighters and
ships in the fleet.
Also impressive is the fact that the whole vessel is gravitated, and carries a
lithium fusion battery, and spacious private crew quaters. The first of two of
these craft, the LSF Demolisher, is slated to have its keel laid down in 3072,
but the blueprints were finished in 3067.

That's not a Destroyer, it's a Heavy Cruiser! Everybody run!
And, at least comparing to the old 2750 warships, that's still pretty fast. Most ships of that size (and many smaller) go only 3/5 or 2/3.

Shut up ...
The SL ships had about 7025.423852659825689265 too many tons of cargo...

I don't see anything slow about this. It's downright speedy for its size. Though it's more of a battlecruiser than a destroyer.
It's damned expensive, though. So expensive that the extra cost of the HPG isn't really noticeable, which is saying something.
A few questions, though.
What's "LSF" stand for?
What do you mean by "the whole ship is gravitated?"
Why the odd number of fighters?
And what exactly are only eight battle armor troopers going to do?

I think that the cargo was there to help with supplying spare parts and other things for whole battle group during prolonged operations. The ship is relatively safe, sitting comfortably on the orbit, acting as main supply depot and almost unassailable fortress(its hard to attack ships on the orbit, when there are enemy ground forces on planet and most fighters are probably destroyed or occupied with ground support and enemy fighters).
It also helped Kerensky with moving whole army out of the IS.

Maybe. But I think that the only possible explanation of Star League ships and their cargo is that the guys who came up with the designs were using too many hallucinogenic drugs.
The McKenna alone has over 200,000 tons of cargo. There's no reason for that. Or the Vincent. 31,000 tons of cargo, and it has almost no armor at all; losing cargo tonnage for amor would make it a viable combat vessel. I even seem to remember a Star League WarShip which had some 50,000 tons of cargo, barely any weapons, and no aft armor at all. The things are like armed freighters, not WarShips.

It's the same reason that the Overlord, the biggest dropship listed in TRO: 3025 weighs in at less than 10,000 tons, when the max weight is 50,000.

I don't think that the biggest is always the best and in 3025 most powerful dropships are usually destroyed because they presented primary target. I don't know who would build them, if producing the Overlords is too costly.

Two for the bridge, and two for the engine room or armory. There are eight so they can have rotating shifts and give round-the-clock coverage.

isn't cargo space directly linked to the amount of fighters you have ?
I heard its like 200 tons of space per fighter. So for 27 fighters you need about 5400 tons of cargo space.
And yeah, i guess most stock Warships have massive cargo space, otherwise how did Kerensky pull out of IS space so easily ?
Same for Clan Ghost Bear as well.

The 200 tons per fighter is the accepted minimum for each fighter around here; it is not a offical requirement.

I thought that the fighter bay weights 150t with the fighter

The bay itself weighs 150 tons. They are referring to the cargo bay that most people allocate to carrying the fighter's supplies (fuel, ammo, spare parts, etc). The established norm on this board is to have 200 tons of cargo for every fighter.
