Do you prefer the SRM 6 or the Streak SRM 4 when making a level 2 'Mech? I've come across this decision a few times when designing 'Mechs, either my own, or my improvement ideas of a canon one, and I wondered what you guys would say.
I think the answer's obvious now, but the fact that I've previously stopped to think about it means that it might not be so clear-cut.

It really isn't clear-cut. The Streak system is very good for ammo and heat efficiency, but it can't use any other type of warheads. The standard SRM can use anything they make in SRM versions, starting with the very useful Inferno SRM.
If a mech is just supposed to fight other mechs I'll go for the Streak.
A multi-role machine is more useful with a standard SRM launcher.
Hmm. I actually prefer machines that are able to try a bit of everything. Jack-of-all-trades, master of none. That settles my vote for the SRM-6.

Gotta go with the ever-versatile SRM-6.

AFAIK, the Streak 4 and 6 are only available in the Draconis Combine. Therefore, unless you're making a mech from there you really would only have access to the SRM 6 to begin with.

Streak 4 - Defiance Trak-Shot II (Defiance Industries, Hesperus II), Guided Technologies Second Generation (Guided Technologies, Proserpina), Harpoon 4-S (Lycomb-Davion IntraTech, New Avalon/Oriente Weapon Works, Oriente).
The Streak-6 is indeed combine-only.

I have to go with the Streak Systems any day.
1) Conserves Ammo and heat
2) More Missles hit = more Damage
3)More Missle Hit = More chacnes for crits. And Against Vechiles this is all too valuable.
To me SRM = Crit Chacne when facing enemy tanks and VTOLS.
Just my two cents . . .

If I have the room and the tonnage...SRM-6 with two tons of ammo...one for standard missiles, the other for Infernos...

Gee, seems the IntraTech is built on New Avalon. I may be dumb as crap, but even I know New Avalon is not in Combine space. Defiance Trak-Shot II built on Hesperus II. No one, and I mean NO ONE, has ever taken Hesperus II from the Steiner family.

I prefer the SRM-6 for costs, maintenance, and ease of finding repair parts. Also, a streak launcher just isn't good for suppression fire or warning shots.

Inferno SRMs are good for area denial as well. More importantly i have less shots to explode with. A Streak 4 has 25 reloads which is like a ticking time bomb.
I will just empty my SRM6s in a hurry and stay safe

Depends on the situation. A guerilla warfare mech would make better use of a streak while an assault assault (no mistake there) battlemech might be better of using SRM-6s for the punch and quick ammo use.

I prefer streaks, they're more efficient, they save ammo and reduce heat build up, more damage as well. _________________ A wise man speaks because he has something to say. A fool speaks because he must say something.
