The Fort Hood PX had the last of their Zoids figures - a case or so each of the Black Rhimos and Command Wolf Irvine - on clearance ($2.50) so I decided to pick up one of each.
General: I find the lack of instructions for the decals annoying. I had to look at the image on the back of the box to try to figure out what went where. Speaking of which, I had a number of the smaller decals left over. They're on clear, self-adhseive plastic so I might incorporate a few of them onto my minis. Also, I only got two or three winds on the motor before the figure wanted to take off running.
Black Rhimos: I spent 30 minutes total just trying to get the head put together. The instructions suggested that the rod / gear assembly that rotated the horn was supposed to have the gear resting inside the head when in reality the gear portion needs to be below the chin. The rest was much easier. I also had two of the joint caps left over even after following all the instructions.
Command Wolf Irvine: The only parts differences between the Irvine custom and the normal Command Wolf are the pilot figure(s), the decal sheet, and the turret assembly. You get two Irvines, one seated and one standing. Unfortunately, both are unpainted black plastic. so you'll have to paint them youself. And good luck in doing so, as there's no painting instructions.
For the turret mechanism, all the parts save for the gunner's seat are on the same sheet of parts as the Irvine figure. Thing is, the Irvine customization uses a different gunner's seat, so Takara / Hasbro decided to solve the problem by giving both styles of Command Wolf both seats. There's two additional hardpoints on top of the CW (one on the neck, another on the hips) so I guess one could still mount the spare seat anyway.
The CW has two gimmics: not only is it motorized, but there's a speed control lever. Problem is, the lever is the head. Depending on what position you have the head elevated, it can either go fast or slow. Thing is, you need to make sure every last part of the head and neck assembly is seated properly or else it won't stay in place.
