==Overview:==
On the surface, this appears to be a normal, heavy cargo vehicle that an
almost unlimited number of civilian and military customers may have use for.
In reality, this vehicle is an ambush item. In a battle, the cargo area opens
up to reveal a turret capable of carrying one ton of weaponry. Twin RL-10
mounts are most common, but from time to time twin machine guns or an SRM 2
(or whatever item is locally available) will be used as there is a built-in
ammo bay.
The operator of this vehicle should be advised however. As this is by design
still a cargo vehicle, the armor is very light and even small arms fire poses
a threat.
[GM note: for this model of vehicle, if you are using a standard version that
doesn't have the weapons and turret you'll have 2.25 tons of either cargo or
miscellanious equipment to deal with)

I had the idea for this a few months back while I was toying with a scenario. The idea for the scenario would be the players ambushing a unit waiting to ambush a convoy - all the trucks would be done up in a similar fashion to this.

Thing is, the way I had it planned out it would actually be the other convoy getting ambushed.
The set-up was that what appeared to be a comparitively large OPFOR unit would encamp along the main route between the player's main base and an outpost that was running critically short on supplies. While the players and these ambush vehicles are sent out to keep the OPFOR busy, the real convoy will be taking an alternate route to the outpost.
Problem is, it's actually a trap. The OPFOR encampment is made up mostly of mannequins and remote-controlled utility vehicles / mechs armed and armored to look like the real thing. The real OPFOR unit snuck off to the alternate route and will ambush the convoy as soon as the players engage the dummy encampment. This will force the players into a hard decision as to what they're going to do.

If the players have mechs, then there's a good chance they'll outdistance their own dummy vehicles trying to run and help the other convoy. These are all fairly weak vehicles by themselves, so said vehicles and their drivers would be easy pickings for the OPFOR unit at that encampment.
Not only that, although the OPFOR unit is largely fake they still hold the main route to that outpost and the region it's guarding; if the players don't take that unit out now then someone will have to take it out later or else cede that route.

In TRO 3060 is standard flatbed truck (10t) and the fluff mentions armed variants, just another option for your mission.

Strangely enough, i did this design a few years back.
Its the perfect companion for Periphery games. You can strips those RLs off the mechs (well in my rules ) and put them on the trucks !
