While the subject is up, which BattleTech novels to you guys particularly like?
Mine are:
Warrior: Riposte (except for this one, I've not read any books before the Clan invasion)
Exodus Road
Measure of a Hero
Path of Glory
A few others are good, but those are the best.

I have to agree, this one was one of the better ones.
Stackpole did okay with Bred For War, but beyond that things were about even for decent till they went back to the one lance/star can defend a whole planet or take one line of thinking and writting.

| I would go with 'Double Blind.' First b-tech novel I ever read and because of 'Loren L. Coleman,' the Avanti's Angels are my favorite merc unit.

I really liked the FCCW books featuring Archer's Avengers, and I liked Flashpoint too. More for the characters and interactions than anything else though.
I also didn't mind Far Country, It was good sci-fi book, and I liked the fact that it took things beyond the cockpit of a mech. Sure it wasn't the greatest BT novel. but I liked it as a book.

That and DRT. Cause its so friggin off the wall, unrealistic, far fetched, and unlikely that it COULD just happen. Oh, and I like how they walk off with a kings ransom in clan mechs too, after getting creamed.

For me, none. The best was not a novel, Shrapnel, the short story set. I have some I liked a lot but not love. As matter of fact I just boxed my odd and ends Btech novels and will get rid of them. Why? Most are not worth a second read.
I read two of the new Mechwarriror series and was a little dismayed. I have gotten out of touch with the Btech universe, plus the writing.
But in general, the Warrior series was good, Heir to the Dragon, that one where Melissa gets whacked, and maybe a couple others. Reading way to much very good historical fiction recently.
AWAD- Gates of Fire by Pressman is a must read.

I like Exodus Road. I like how it paints the picture of how it seems everyone is out to get Trent, dispite his skills in battle. I also liked all three Jade Phoenix books.

Wolves on the Border is definitely the best one I've read. Great charecterization, and its long enough for the author to spend time on development. The word count maximum must have been higher then.
The Jade Pheonix books were pretty good. In general, the Battletech novels aren't that enjoyable for me, especially the newer ones.

It was a bit choppy though.
The Jade Phoenix Trilogy was definitely my favorite. The characterization was far superior to what you found in the other novels. It's still hackwork, but not nearly as blatent.

Wolves on the Border, definetely a favorite, along with the Grey Death Legion trilogy. DRT too. The new updated Dragoons novel Wolf Pack? Stackpoles Warrior series. And the 3 books featuring Comacho's Cabolleros, a real fun bunch. And Cassie Suthorn, the warrior who takes down assault mechs in a party dress with a vibroknife has to be my favorite Btech character.
