Anyone here play warhammer? I havent played it yet myself but originally bought a few of the Bretonnian men at arms for painting and use in other games and have bought a few White Dwarf magazines and have to say the game looks fun.
Anyone got any decent stories of games? Any particular favorite faction or least favorite faction. Or pics of paint jobs thier proud of? Im a bit of an amateur when it comes to paining but am getting better. Anyone got any good tips for extra effects?

Just one bit of advice: It's EXPENSIVE. Hugely. I know people who spend every extra dollar they earn trying to keep up with the new pieces, books and factions, not to mention the massive initial investment and the steep learning curve.

Ah, the learning curve is not that steep. After a few games, one gets the hang of it.
I play both Warhammer and Warhammer 40,000. They are very fun games, and can one can easily spend the whole day playing them. They are expensive, though, but once you have an idea of an army, and purchase it, you really won't need to buy anything else.
I would be glad to give you some paintinmg tips if you would like, as I have been painting models and minis for almost 15 years.

yeh that would be great. I tend to paint to a fair but simple level of detail. Because i dont spend much time on each model before moving on to something new. It gives my army a good overall look but up close there are plenty of mistakes for someone with a keen eye and some that expert painters might cringe at.
However with the Bretonnians i am trying to give them a decent medieval coloured look. So i am using mixes of browns, greens, reds, grays and occasional purples and blues. Mixing them with duller and darker colours to give them a dirty cloth like effect. Any particular mixes you find good for warn clothing? And warn metals?

Warhammer 40K is a very expensive game. A single Terminator battlearmor cost like USD 50 bucks.

I've found that giving the first colour coat a wash with an apropriate ink very effective, especially followed by drybrushing.
For clothing, a base of, say, red, inked with watered-down black (worn/old) or brown (dirty/used), followed by some drybrushing of the same red, then lighter colours.
For metals, a base of tin bitz (citadel colour, sort of a metalic brown), with a black ink wash, then drybrushed with tin bitz again, and a few shades of silver.
If you're not sure what drybrushing is, take an older brush that you no longer care about too much, preferably larger than a detail brush, and get some paint on it. Then use a cloth (paper towels work well, some people use old socks) and wipe off most of the paint. Then use the brush on the model. You should see some colour build up on the raised edges. It's a great way to add soft highlights.
I don't think that it cost $50 US for a terminator, as it costs around $55 canadian for 5.

Yeh dry brushin is somethin i am starting to get the hang of. My ink mixin is a bit poor and generally messy and unfortunatly the only metalllic paint i cant get hold of is in Bitz, lol
Actually my real mission is making a Plaid pattern! trying to make a highlander and of most of the people i ahve asked Plaid seems to have them really stumped. Although most can do it actually explaining it is a different matter!
Thank you for help! good tips.
