Apparently my definition "hidden" differs from your's, as to me "hidden" in that context means that you can't be seen.

Quads are great! They are much better for those who can't make piloting rolls(me!). I use quads whenever I can. (Mosh Pit would be cool but nooo... ) Plus for a Lyran they come in handy for those Heavy Gauss Rifles. I think that for a lack of space they make up for it decently.

If you are using heavy weapons then quads are alright. The movement abilities are nice to, but overall I still like the more room of biped mechs. _________________ Confucius says, "Man who smokes pot, chokes on handle."

I like quads. Just don't use them in a simultanious blind movement 1 on 1 game, such as Chihawks PBeM. The lack of a torso twist ability eventually catches up with you.

A Barghest won last time, and there's one that has a chance of making the semi-finals in this game.
Must be the pilots

Casey was piloting a Barghest in the previous e-mail game and won. Pinhead has one in the current game and is fighting Mordel (in a Penatrator) with the winner heading into the semi-finals

Yeah, I get the envious distinction of possibly losing to a Barghest in two straight games with the chance for the Semi-Finals on the line. So sad... _________________ Mordel Blacknight - Site Administrator

You already know my opinion. Refit them for cargo carrier duty with the techs. They simply do not have space to mount a decent weapon load. Stability and such, does not fix that shortfall.

I dislike quads too, but for a more practical reason, I think. In the very first year I started buying mech minis, well over a decade ago, I bought a scorpion mini.
It is still not assembled. I tried a few times, but it just would not cooperate and I get the feeling buying a Tarantula would be even more aggravating. _________________ "Those who beat their guns into plows will plow for those with guns..." -Thomas Jefferson

The standard quads pretty much suck.
Refits for special occasions might be
useful though, such as a Scorpion with
DHS, more armor and 6 Medium Lasers.
Still, they really need turret rules to
give you full value for the money. _________________ A tree fall in the forest, and no one is around, and it hits a mime. Does anyone care?

I think that the penetrator will probably win that one though.

I would still refit it for a green cadet to drive around for technical supply/ support. The 4 legs give him a cahance to learn the basics of mech piloting without falling over. He will gain some battlefield experience (at least in the pick up after the fight category) and not ding up any REAL mechs.
About the only way to get a quad to match up with regular mechs is to put a long range weapon on them and use turret rules, along with the "hull down" optional rule. Even then you have to overspecialize the mech. Quads are the most guilty of that. either they are short range infighters, or a long range plinker. The short range infighter is stil disadvantaged due to lack of arms. The long range plinker usually doe not have effective short range weapons. I like to specialize mechs somewhat, but I also expect them to do adequately on their own as well.
