Some omni's have special gear fix on them for the roles that they were designed for, such as the Dasher's MASC, or the Black Hawks jumps. Some have weapons that go with the designs plans, like the Firestarter's flamers.

While I don't use omni's too much I do keep the fixed crits fixed. If what I want doesn't fit then I either do something else or I do it to a different omni. I'm alos not above creating a whole new omni to be built around the weapons suite I want.

I don't see why you guys don't like omnis. OK, they're a bit more expensive. I know. But the fact that you can have one loadout now and another in three hours is pretty nice.

Omnis are flexible enough as it is, I don't need to change atheir internal structure. I rarely make configs, I just use the pre-made loadouts.

Most people don't like them because of that.

More likely the different load-outs. With standard mechs every single machine is suited for a few things so you build your tactics around that.
The omnis cause a problem. You'll have to evaluate which config to use for every battle. And of course, if you're playing a campaign there's a lot of omni pods in your armory taking up space that could be used for ammo and general spare parts.
Oh yeah, the different configs. How many players go around using the config they thought up on their own? I thought it's only the highest officers and heroes who get to specify a config for themself?

I still think that the pods take less space than mech for every situation that omni can handle.

For the Clans, Im guessing that only Star Colonels and above get to make their own configs. For the Sphere, I'd also say colonel and above. Of corse, Mercs get to specifiy their own.

Not neccessary Colonel and above rank only. Even with normal Battlemechs, some mechwarriors make small mods here and there.

Some units may have configs that are unique for them too.
