I just gave my first academic presentation today! It went over REALLY well. I got a standing ovation! I AM SO EXCITED! PUBLICATION HERE I COME!
Everyone must go out and buy my article when it gets published. I will post more details then!

Don't count your chickens before they hatch. Presentation is much easier than publication (I'm working month six of that department).
What was the paper over?

In poli sci there are phenomenon that liked to be studied, one of which is nationalism. Quickly, there is a difference between a State and a Nation.
A state is a geo-political entity with boundaries on a map, and some kind of government structure that you, as an individual, can interact with.
A nation is a group that shares a common identity. Now, this might be a shared common history, a genetic trait (i.e. you could have a nation that states it is a specific group because they all have purple hair or something). Further, groups can be determined by language, religion, or any other trait that is unique enough for the group to form an identity around.
So, nationalism in Puerto Rico is based around Spanish, a language trait. If you speak Puerto Rican spanish, you are a member of that group, even if you are african, asian, or whatever.
However, slavic nationalism is based upon ethnicity (ethno-nationalism) and is therefore a much more exclusive grouping.
So thats a Nation. A group with a common trait, that has some political organization.
A Nation-State is a group with a common trait, with political organization, and geo-political borders. Croatia is a Nation-State, Lithuania is a Nation-State, the United States of America is not.
Now, my problem with nationalism is that it says there is no such thing as group identity before the French revolution. This is because up until 1955, all comparative political science was focused on Europe, and only on post-Renisance Europe (sp on Ren unsure of), so no one cared, but from "not caring" we have gone to "Rule."
Tautopolism is a combination of two greek words taken from Aristotle: Tauto - Identity/Self and Polis - city/politics. Roughly translated it is Political Identity. It is exactly the same as Nationalism, except its an actual theory which follows tendencies and not stuck up French idiocy on insisting that they are somehow cooler then the rest of 10,000 years of human political interaction.
This is a result of research conducted by me and a small group of other political scientists which identified group identity traits throughout the ancient world: Egypt, Rome, Greek city-states, Mesopotamia, etc.
It is not going to be popular

I'm staying mum on the topic because its ground breaking stuff Everyone at my lecture won't tattle, cause I know where they sleep. But I don't know what kind of people we have as lurkers. So... i have to be careful. I'm still excited. Oh I'm going to make BIG WAVES!

I'll give pretty good odds that it doesn't make that many waves.
One group of people is going to take issue with your definition of nationalism, accuse you of stacking the deck, and then ignore you.
One group is going to find it a fascinating, but not really care.
One very small group is going to be interested in the work and then incorporate it into their own work (based on the blurb here, I'm in that category).
And one enormously huge group consisting of 75% of the globe is never going to hear about it.
For that matter, that is the same group that doesn't know that such a fight exists.

LOL actually the topic itself will probably get a lot of responce from policy analysists all over. But for the most part, hard core nationalist theorists will turn their head up and huff. But I don't care about them because they don't really contribute anything useful to the discpline.
