A low-tech refit of an Awesome 8Q for a mechwarrior campaign I'm planning to run. Any suggestions or comments are more than welcome.
BattleMech Technical Readout
Type/Model: Awesome AWS-8Q ICE
Tech: Inner Sphere / 3062
Config: Biped BattleMech
Rules: Level 3, Modified design
Mass: 80 tons
Chassis: Technicron Type G Standard
Power Plant: 160 I.C.E.
Walking Speed: 21.6 km/h
Maximum Speed: 21.6 km/h
Jump Jets: None
Jump Capacity: 0 meters
Armor Type: Patchwork
Armament:
2 Kreuss PPCs
1 Armstrong Autocannon/2
Manufacturer: Technicron Manufacturing
Location: (Unknown)
Communications System: Garret T-19G
Targeting & Tracking System: Dynatec 2780
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
==Overview:==
The patchwork mech was created from the chassis of an old Awesome by a
Periphery mechanic named Niles Vanders. Vanders found the old hulk buried in a
junk heap.
Without access to proper parts, Vanders was only able to salvage two of the
original PPCs, neither of which work at full capacity. To replace the final
PPC, Vanders managed to reconstruct an old model AC/2 from the torso of a
Vulcan, which is also the only fully functional weapon.
The small laser was found to be unrepairable, and was removed to make room for
power amplification gear. This gear also forced some creative engineering in
the cockpit, effectively shrinking it. In order to protect the pilot from the
new power amplifiers and the huge ICE engine just below his feet, heat sinks
were grafted into the head of the mech, further reducing cockpit size.
In order to replace lost armour, Vanders was forced to resort to whatever he
could find, including buying small quatities of stolen prototype armours.
==Capabilities:==
Vanders' frankensteined Awesome suffers from reduced speed and severely
reduced firepower, in addition to it's weakened armour and the inherrent flaws
in some of the prototype armour.
That said, it is still a match for many of the threats which it may face in
the periphery. It's dual PPC system allows it to punish any mechs foolish
enough to come within range, while the AC/2 can worry away armour at much
greater ranges.
The mech does suffer against close-in targets, however this is remedied by
pairing it with some form of short range mech or vehicle.
==Deployment==
Vanders plans to sell his newly functional mech to the highest bidder,
although his focus market is agri-combines and other communities preyed upon
by pirates.
Knowing full well that his target customers can't afford the mech, Vanders
plans to make the sale using barter, namely they take the mech in exchange for
allowing him to comfortably live in their community at no cost to himself.

I must say you have done a marvelous job of making it look like a slapped together pile of salvage.
I am curious about one thing. Why does it have a 2 run instead of a three?

I have no idea, I just noticed that myself, actually. I'll have to do some reading and see if there's a reason or if it's just a bug in HM Pro.

I've never liked the idea of ICE BattleMechs. That said, there's no complaints at all to be made about this one. The fluff is great, and it's exactly what the fluff says it is. And it does reasonably well as a 'Mech (unless it runs out of gas).
I just hope that no one hits you in the CT(R) with something that reflective armor doesn't like.

Looks good for low-tech periphery planets and the like.

This is just the first of a couple low-tech refits I've been looking at doing for the campaign, I'm also planning on doing a vehicle (BM recovery vehicle with weapons and armour plates strapped on) and a second mech, although I haven't decided on what the second mech will be yet, looking at either a Centurion or perhaps what was left of the Vulcan that the AC/2 came off of.
Together they form the core of the forces that the PCs have at their disposal (in addition to whatever the PCs bring) in order to deal with these raiders that have been hitting settlements in the periphery. Just to give some background.

This looks like hardened armor. Haven't you tried it somewhere during production?

Yes, I was looking over the design again this morning and noted that the right leg has hardened armour, not something that shows up on the TRO.

Well that explains it. Hardened armor should be represented on TRO, as every type of armor other than standard, shouldn't it?

One would think it should, but apparently it does not. Perhaps due to space restrictions when it comes to unbalanced armour, like I have.

Here's the modified recovery vehicle I mentioned. Essentially it just drops the cargo space for armour and weapons.
BattleTech Vehicle Technical Readout
VALIDATED
Type/Model: Heavy BattleMech Recovery Vehicle (Armed)
Tech: Inner Sphere / 3062
Config: Wheeled Vehicle
Rules: Level 3, Modified design
Mass: 70 tons
Power Plant: 260 Generic I.C.E.

1 Armstrong Minigun Machine Gun
Manufacturer: (Unknown)
Location: (Unknown)
Communications System: O/P COMSET
Targeting & Tracking System: O/P 2000JSA
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
==Overview:==
This particular recovery vehicle, which had previously been used as a heavy
duty truck after having been abandoned, has been rebuilt to act as a defencive
vehicle for an agricombine.
Also having been designed by Niles Vanders, the man who rebuilt the
settlement's two battlemechs, the recovery vehicle was given additional armour
plating from what was left over from the two mechs. In addition to this,
scavenged parts from various pieces of heavy machinery were used to give the
vehicle a limited turret, in which its main armaments were mounted.
The weapons themselves were built from black market parts and those scavenged
off of downed raiders. The rocket launchers, easily the least sophisticate
weapons, were built in Vanders' workshop, with the firing control linkages
coming from salvage. This arrangement causes for some targetting issues, but
otherwise they work like factory new models.
The Com system was upgraded to an O/P COMSET ripped out of a raider's Vedette,
along with the targetting and tracking system.
==Capabilities:==
Having nearly double the armour of the original vehicle, this armed truck is
capable of dealing with most light armoured opponents and most infantry with
minimal risk to itself.
The combination of long and short range weaponry gives it decent armament at
all ranges, however the majority of the vehicle's firepower is concentrated in
the 4 10-pack rockets, which forces the gunners to be more conservative than
in a more combat oriented vehicle.
