I got to thinking about this.

Given that it only takes up 1 critical slot, the AC/2 could be mounted in the head of a mech.

My question is - would anyone here actually do so?

I would. Just haven't had the chance to do so yet.

::shrug:: I don't see any reason to mount an AC/2 in the head. But I don't see any reason not to, either. If I had some reason for mounting an AC/2 in the head, I'd do it.

I've done it before, under the reasoning that the head is a relatively safe location. There's less of a chance of hitting the head, therefore any weapons mounted there are reasonably safe.

That said, I've seen some strange designs that mount ammo in the head.

Can't say I'm one for mounting weapons in the head. I usually use that for other things, T/C, or ECM for example.

That said, I am a Whitworth driver.

The bigger problem is I'm just not a fan of the AC 2. I call it the plink gun for a reason. I like Range, but I like indirect fire better.

What does it matter if there's an AC2 in the head or something else? Excluding ammo there's no difference between any 1 crit item that you can put there...

I happen to like the idea of having a mech with an oversized nose. Even though the AC2 does limited damge it is not a weapon to sneeze at. (all puns intended)

Since when do pure aestetics count for anything in BAttletech? There are plenty of ugly designs that are still useful while there are many pretty designs that aren't worth their weight in manure.

I was asked for a reason. Not a good reason.

It's the same reason I always put a gun in the nose of an aerofighter. It just seems right. I obviously have exceptions (re: I drive a Whitworth: medium laser in the head).

After all the flak I hear around here about munchy mechs, is someone seriously going to tell me that all there is to mech design is putting firepower and heatsinks on a chasis with a lot of armor?

And aesthetics is about more than looking pretty. Goya's 3rd of May has great aesthetics. It's beautiful the way an Atlas is beautiful. That is to say, it isn't.
