A Charger (CGR-1A1) is on a recon-mission (Yes! TRO3025 fluff calls it a recon-mech!) and encounters a single enemy Stinger (STG-3R)! The Stinger pilot sees a chance of destroying an Assault, wants to get the honor and begins to attack in earnest!
Is his chance a real one or would he die a sudden death?
(Take four standart BT maps to give plenty of room to maneouvre.)

Stinger can use JJs to keep itself safe, but if the pilot is stupid enough to get himself to Chargers range (Or even physical attack reach) than he'll be dead soon. With Charger's armor it looks like very (VERY) long match for Stinger.

Honestly, what honor can you gain by destroying a Charger? The honorable thing to do is challenge the other pilot to a match mano-a-mano as he's handicapped by driving a tractor.

The Stinger pilot hopes, that he gets an assault mark in his kill statistics while begging not to write the type of assault in it!

Stinger. He can easily slaughter the charger...lets look here...
Charger- Oh wow. Small Lasers slow speed lots of armor
Stinger- Almost twice as fast, and has jumpjets, medium laser and a SRM-2
The Stinger can stay out of the Chargers range easily. He runs 1 hex faster.
If terrain gets in the way, just use jumpjets. The Stinger can win without taking a hit if he knows how to manover!
Even when jumping at max and alpha striking he isn't going to overheat. Goodbye Mr. Charger. The onlything the Stinger pilot has to worry about is boredom...

The Stinger will have to roll 10 or 11 most of the time (medium 6 + Chargers move 2 or 3 + run or jump 2 or 3 = 10 to 12) so I think the Stinger will have to have lots of patience!
I´ll try that challange this weekend!

Dont forget the 3025 charger is a 5-8 move, and the Stinger is a 6-9-6. So aside from the jump, the movement profile is pretty close. I do think the Stinger has the advantage. But it is going to be a very long match.

Stinger but if the pilot makes one mistake he's done for.

Actually if both players aren't going to make stupid moves than it may deviate to who will kill himself in more stupid way or any other type of boredom contests.

I'll take a jump here and say Charger, just for craps and snickers.
With 4/4 pilots this is going to take a LOONNG time. All the Stinger has to do is stay 4 hexes or more away every round and he will win. Of course the Charger needs just one kick to win. But that chance is remote at best.
Now look at it in scenario. Can the Stinger prevent the Charger from reporting back to base with the info it's gathered? Not likely. Can the Charger prevent the Stinger from reporting back to base with the info it's gathered? Not likely.
Now, both of them could lead the other to an ambush however. Which would tip the scales ever so favorably to the one being pursued.

Question: is the stinger doing a fighting retreat? if so, i'd givie it to the charger. If the stinger is just flat out booting it, he'll win. Eventually.
Now wouldn't it be funny if the stinger pilot thought he was goung to piddle the charge to death, only to discover that it's the variant with the bucket load of large lasers?

You don't even need that extreme.. all it needs is for two small lasers to be replaced with a medium and the stinger is toast..
But that's besides the point. The charger in this scenario is scouting.. he comes under attack, he's supposed to retreat.

In a RPG our unit get their hands on a Charger (-1A1)! We were in need of a functional mech but we ripped out four of the small lasers to replace them by two mediums in the arms! Not bad against lights or even some mediums but a single Vindicator toasted it later in the game!

..., or do battle for a while and then salute each others skill and return home. This kind of behavior is not unheard of among IS and clan armies (Oni fluff). In history, WWI fighter pilots are fine example of this way of solving problems, that neither side can afford to devote it's time to dealing with in some other way. (something tells me that this isn't the best way to say it )

I think that the Stinger has a small advantage. It's greater speed and longer range weapon should allow it to remain out of the Charger's range, while slowly whittling the Charger down. A mistake (maybe two if lucky) on the Stinger's part will get him killed.
If the Stinger decides to retreat, it will outrun the Charger. If the Charger decides to retreat, the Stinger will have trouble hurting it before it gets home (or meets up with someone friendly).
