Does anyone play using the miniatures rules? Because I think the hexes are lame.

I have, and its fun, but unless you are a wiz at math the games can get very very long. And with out the room to set it up can get very cramped very quickely.

I prefer mini style but it takes longer to set up. Also you have to lug more stuff around. Most people are use to Hexes. So for a quick game it is hexes.

But I have found once people have a game or two under their belts it goes faster with terrain. Less counting and I do not allow pre measuring. People have objectives and goals and just do them.

It is true a 4X8 table is a little smaller than a 2X1 board set up. So you have to be careful about that. But it can look so cool and beautiful.

Agreed. A good terrain set up is very cool and can also be quite beautiful to behold. But with the 2x movment 4x weapons fire even a 8x16 table is going to be small. Unless you just change to a 1 for 1 system then you can be ok.
