==Overview:==
     The Kintaro is a rare example of a 'Mech designed around a weapons
system, the Narc missile beacon.  Unfortunately, the widespread devastation of
the Succession Wars destroyed the Inner Sphere's ability to manufacture Narc
pods and provide Narc homing sensors for standard long- and short-range
missiles. By 2792, when the last known Narc manufacturing site was destroyed,
most Kintaro pilots had replaced their Narc launchers with an additional SRM
launcher.
     In 3050, the Successor Houses had gained access a Star League Memory Core
and had quickly rediscovered technology that had previously not been available
for the last 300 years.  One such system was the Narc launchers and Pods that
had originally been used on the Kintaro.  Another such system was the Streak
Missile that had seen deployment prior to the fall of the Star League.  With
these discoveries, House Kurita would quickly grow in its employment and
development of missile weapons, including larger Streak SRM racks.


==Capabilities:==
     Originally designed as primarily a missile carrier, the Kintaro packs a
considerable punch.  However, this punch was dependent on Narc Pods to guide
the various missiles.  Shortly after its rediscovery House Kurita started
deploying field refit kits that returned the Narc launcher to the Kintaro. 
However, the new Pods were not as effective as the old Star League Pods and
offered only a modest increase in the number of missiles that hit the target.
     This disappointment in performance would lead to a radical redesign in
3062 of further production models to incorporate House Kurita's Streak SRM 6
rack and a few other advancements that had been made during the last twelve
years.  The Kintaro now carries three Guided Technologies 2nd Gen streak
short-range missile. In addition, these launchers have all been moved into the
torsos and matched in order to correct problems encountered in older Kintaro
arm mount missile racks.  The system now loads directly into the launcher just
like the other short range missile racks and no longer uses to older feed
system. This prevents the feed from jamming, which occurred in the old feed
system and usually took at least an hour to clear. 
     The lower arm still houses a Holly long-range missile launcher but has
been upgraded to a ten tube launcher, and the reloads are now stored in the
left arm. The original Holly-5 LRM used the same principle as the original arm
mounted SRM rack, but worked like a charm. Missiles are stored in the torso
and fed through the upper arm to the launcher in the forearm. Rare incidents
of jamming occur in the storage area, before the missile enters the loading
tube. Experts debated why two such similar systems differ so widely in
performance, and the design team chose to remove the system entirely in order
to avoid any possible problems that the larger launcher may cause.
     The twin Magna medium lasers mounted on the right arm which were there
more for the pilot's peace of mind than to fight the enemy have been upgraded
to extended range models and with the new heat exchangers can be used
occasionally by a MechWarrior in a tough fight with little risk of
overheating. These lasers provide a good arc of fire and work well as a
supplement to the missile system.
     The Kintaro has also been outfitted with CASE in both torsos so that
salvage teams can recover some pieces of equipment from the 'Mech if it
suffers and ammunition explosion.  It has also been equipped, thanks to the
short range nature of its weapons, with Matabushi C3 Slave unit that allows
the Kintaro to tie into a C3 network and send its targeting data to other
'Mechs in the network.  
     However, all of these upgrades and enhancements did not come without a
price.  In order to gain the weight needed for the upgrades, the team
incorporated an Endo-Steel chassis and an Extra-Light fusion engine.  These
increase the price more then two fold and have the disadvantage of decreasing
the 'Mechs ability to take damage.  It was felt, however, that the new
advantages outweigh the disadvantages and production of the KTO-18K2 Kintaro
has begun.

That's got one hell of a short-range punch. Potentially 36 damage from the SRMs alone. Good armor too. This could make some heavy pilots sweat.

Maybe an artemis IV pod would be worthwhile for the LRMs?

Ya, you can easily drop a ton of armor for it. Infact, the design is 0.5t over the KTO-18 so loosing 0.5t would do little to the profile vs the original.

Massive weapons upgrade and XL. Well used XL, not stupid upgrade. Maybe ComStar would do something similar with their Kintaros too. Good work.
