I like the 8-12-8 Jenner. The main downside is the cost of the XL engine for a mech that was originally designed as cannon fodder. I also do not understand the half ER med and half regular med lasers. That will make field repairs more expensive. Normally I would not care about such things, but the Jenner is used by Kurita in mass quantities to overwhelm opponents. The cost of maintence in the field and ease of repair should be kept in any update. If you choose to use the XL engine then the laser load should either be all ER or all regular.

I would have to agree that the XL is the better of the 2. I like the extra heat sinks and ECM. This will make for dangerous alpha strikes.

I chose ER and standard laser mix because I think that main asset of Jenner is it's mobility. I wanted to add some range (and accuracy), but four ER lasers would overwhelm the heat sinks too often. Installation of different type of lasers is no problem and heat is easily manageable, but it would limit the use of SRMs. I think that this would depend on your preference.

ECM and TAG would be nice, but I don't want to loose SRMs... maybe ER lasers and TAG instead of one laser?

No light engines...grrrrrrr...

[grumble, grumble...frakin stupid IS XL engines...grumble, grumble]

No targeting computers...grrrrrrr.

So force me to have MORE mass to play with in the armor heat sinks and weapons catagories.

Ok, given time...say another 7 years of time line...this is what I would make it into. And the SPL could be substituted with a C3 slave.

try this for the 3060 era then...

Type/Model: Jenner JR-7F-J2
Mass: 35 tons

Equipment: Crits Mass
Int. Struct.: 58 pts EndoSteel 14 2.00
Engine: 245 XL Fusion 12 6.00
Walking MP: 7
Running MP: 11
Jumping MP: 5
Heat Sinks: 10 Double [20] 3 0.00
Gyro: 4 3.00
Cockpit, Life Supt., Sensors: 5 3.00
Actuators: L: Sh+UA R: Sh+UA 12 .00
Armor Factor: 104 pts Standard 0 6.50
(Armor Crit Loc: NA)

Internal Armor
Structure Value
Head: 3 9
Center Torso: 11 15
Center Torso (Rear): 4
L/R Side Torso: 8 10/10
L/R Side Torso (Rear): 4/4
L/R Arm: 6 10/10
L/R Leg: 8 14/14

Weapons and Equipment Loc Heat Ammo Crits Mass
--------------------------------------------------------
1 ER Medium Laser RA 5 1 1.00
1 Medium Laser RA 3 1 1.00
1 ER Medium Laser LA 5 1 1.00
1 Medium Laser LA 3 1 1.00
1 Medium Pulse Laser CT 4 1 2.00
1 Small Pulse Laser CT 2 1 1.00
1 C3 Slave H 0 1 1.00
1 Guardian ECM Suite LT 0 2 1.50
1 Beagle Active Probe RT 0 2 1.50
1 TAG Laser RT 0 1 1.00
2 Jump Jets RT 2 2 1.00
2 Jump Jets LT 2 2 1.00
1 Jump Jets CT 1 1 0.50

Hits hard, runs fast, well protected, ferrets out enemies, blocks electronics, spots for artillery, shares targeting information with lance mates or the company, has increased range. And still... the closer they get the more dead they get due to the addition of pulse lasers.

Is it perfect...no. No cannon mech ever has been so I don't worry about it either. It can easily overload its heat sinks.

How does that suit all of you DC fans?

Hey, the Grand Dragons get XLs! And they're the definition of expendable mass-produced mechs for the typical DCMS mass charge.

Where it's written that Grand Dragon is expendable?

Kurita mechs aren't expendable. Its the pilots that we sacrifice in waves.

In the Combine the pilots aren't sacrificed, we sacrifice ourselves willingly for the glory of our Coordinator. The enemies of the Combine are sacrificed when they are sent to block our path to our rightful rule over the universe...

I've got mixed feelings about loosing the missiles. It frees up a lot of weight at the expense of a weapon that is not used often, but on the other hand, it costs the Jenner a lot of firepower at a critical moment. The whole point of a 'mech like the Jenner is to get behind the enemy's line and drop or cripple an enemy 'mech with a shot to the rear. (this is particularly fun to do to Valkyries ; ) You will probably only get one shot at that vulnerable rear armor, so you want as many guns as possible to bring to bear.

My personal preference would be replacing Streaks and one JJ with old SRMs (traditionalist section here), but that doesn't mean that this variants bad!
