To infest a Drop ship you don't need intelligence. Just instinct that makes you comfortable in tight spaces and a short while when the security doesn't pay attention.

Oh, so thats how you got into the B&G.

On the question of Aliens, there are a couple other things to consider. First, the point of the original game was the Hobbesian nature of man.
Second, yeah, 30 to 120 light years away from earth they only found a couple of habitable planets. The rest they terraformed (remember how important it is to find water, even if it's just ice?).
Third, humans use 100% of our brains, we just don't use it all for "higher brain functions." Which is good, because would you really want to have to think about breathing, walking, watching where you are going, and the project you're doing for work all at the same time? An ant using all it's brain power can't match the human because it lacks the Cerebellum. Likewise, a giant alien w/o a cerebellim is screwed. _________________ "Politics is the Art of looking for trouble, finding it everywhere, misdiagnosing the problem, and applying the wrong solution."

We tried something similar but never got it onto the map!
Your rules seem to be balanced!
I´ll try them!

Actually, finding Intelligent creatures is not likely do be difficult, it is the finding of Sentient creatures that is. Given the thousands of colonized worlds and untold number of creatures on those worlds, there are likely many intelligent \'aliens\' to be found. The term \'alien\' is just referred to as anything not normal or natural, or simply not from Earth as in the case we are currently talking about. In which case there are likely millions of aliens to be found throughout the BT universe. And intelligence is just the capablity of understanding & learning. Which, just looking at the Earth, there are many animals/creatures/lifeforms capable of such. If not on their own, then simply just being around people allows for them to learn. Example: A dog is likely to learn to grab for the doorknob when it wants to leave after watching its owner use it in order to go out. Or a chimp learning how to communicate with a person using sign-language, granted it was likely trained to do so, but that just then shows its ablity to learn & understand (unlike some people I know).

I guess bottom line is Fasa wanted to keep things simple. Could you imagine when creating a mech...other alterations that need to be done to adjust for body sizes of alien races...that is a bit too detailed. I don't blame them for keeping it simple, it's a great formula.

And actually there is quite a bit of canon materiel on alien life forms. Especially on the clan homeworlds, both native and the bioenginnered ones. I forget if it was a mechwarrior sourcebook or a battletech one, but there is one full of critters

The Mechwarrior Companion has rules for creating all manner of alien beasties, and provides several examples.

Goliath Scorpions? Think about WoBies! They can't be ordinary power group, they must have backing from several non IS powers and recruit followers by exposing them to heavy radiation and some extremely vicious virus
