==Overview:==
When it first appeared in the ranks of the Star League, the Thorn was
considered an oddity. Although one of the lightest mechs in existance, it did
not have the speed or electronics to serve as a scout or harraser. Instead, it
was created as the lightest dedicated fire-support mech in existance.
Unfortunately, the Succession Wars destroyed the factory that made the Endo
Steel frame. The Thorn was still in production, but had to switch to more
conventional materials. It was believed that with the new-found emphasis light
mechs were getting, a fire-support unit would be a welcome boost to any
Successor State army. Instead, it was discovered that most units prefered to
have conventional vehicles serve as their fire support so that their mechs
could be held in reserve for other tasks.
When Endo Steel did come back, it was too late; most of the Successor Houses
had already come up with a plethora of fire-support units of their own. While
sales to mercenary units and Prehiphery states kept the company afloat,
eventually that market became tapped out as well.
All seemed lost until elements from the DCMS expressed a new-found interest in
the Thorn. Due to losses sustained in fighting with the Ghost Bears, they
needed a lot of cheaper mechs to help fill their gaps and felt the Thorn would
serve their needs nicely. This renewed interest in the Thorn, coupled with the
DCMS' need to also replace lost artillery units, led to the creation of the
Thorn II.
==Capabilities:==
The Thorn II has the same basic shilouette as the original Thorn, but is much
larger and has a re-designed right torso to handle the Arrow assembly.
The decision to go with the Arrow IV was made so that the Thorn II could
replace those O-Bakemono units lost in the fighting. The Thorn II will not
have the rate of fire or combat sustainability of the original units, but it
was decided that the sacrifice was justified by simply having the launcher on
the field.
Two medium lasers provide defensive firepower, just as with the original
Thorn.
==Variants:==
Two variants have been proposed, but none have entered production.
TH-R42: This variant replaces the head-mounted medium laser with a C3 Slave.
TH-R43: This variant replaces the Arrow IV with an LRM-15 unit, and also
replaces the head-mounted medium laser with a C3 Slave. This variant, which
might soon prove to be the most common, is intended to replace those Naginata
units lost to the fighting.

Drop laser for ammo. I don't think that one ton is enough.
To TH-R43 variant - there is probably something wrong in the description. If it should make up for lost Naginata than where is C3 Master?

I did the slave simply because that was all I had the tonnage for.
I'll have to go back and check, but IIRC the mobile headquarters truck has enough tonnage to where it could use a master.

Actually its possible to have master unit on your chassis.
Arrow with ammo weighs 16 tons, so you may have one LRM-15 (LRM-10 would probably be better ) with one ton of ammo (8t), C3 Master (5t) and use remaining three tons to fuse med lasers in to one ER large. not the best C3 master, but...
Of course, I just consider Naginata replacement...

Actually, my math was off then. For some reason, (most likely a rather exhausting weekend w/ little sleep) I thought the LRM weighed the same as the Arrow.

This looks a lot like my 35 ton Pferdman. With an additional five tons. I think 35 tons is the sweet spot for using Arrow systems but I'm also crazy.
I like the idea of mech mobile arrow systems.
