The details of the movie
Looks quite promising from the Dave Students and a short film like this should certainly beat the crap out of any M$ endorsed film. However, the script will be from Wizkids though.
Quote:
| “The director [Lee Stringer] is an Emmy-winning visual effects supervisor with credits on Star Trek, Firefly and Battlestar Galactica. Lee loves MechWarrior and has wanted to bring it to the screen for 10 years,” according to DAVE School Founder and Director Jeff Scheetz. “We teach our students the importance of getting strong reference, and the incredible level of art direction in the MechWarrior universe is making it easier for our students to create awesome sequences.”The as-yet-unnamed film will release this summer, and will be screened at Origins 2006 in Columbus, Ohio, and Gen Con 2006 in Indianapolis, Ind. |

It was just a trailer, so a lot of things may change, but generally the mechs seemed to move too fast. Some moves would use a little final tuning to enhance the feeling that the mechs are really BIG pieces of angry metal, not just some computer images.

That is what I was thinking. Its just a little to pretty. The mechs look to clean. Hopefully this is just a demo trailer but, my guess is this will be mediocre at best.

It's a student film, guys. It's only going to be one step higher than a fan film. But it still looks pretty impressive. _________________ "Politics is the Art of looking for trouble, finding it everywhere, misdiagnosing the problem, and applying the wrong solution."

My big complaint is that I didn't recognize a single piece of hardware in that trailer.

Maybe, just remember that this is DA movie. Not everything looks like we know it.
Things in the movie:
School logo
Mad Cat
Mad Cat again
Maybe phoenix Rifleman, but mot probably some DA thing
Big mech ??? (some clanner)
Catapult or armless Mad Cat
flashy computers
Overlord DropShip
probably DA Atlas
exploding Mad Cat
Morningstar CCV
again flashy cockpit
either RFL or some DA mech
Quad of unknown type
DA Atlas again
end.

Well, i think it has some promise.
Properly closes thing we'll get to seeing a mechwarrior production.
WizKids still going be looking over it shoulder to see if anyone will try sue them like they did FASA when they brought Battletech to small-screen. _________________ When it comes down to who wins, its who left standing who's the qualified winner.

For those that care, the units that were in the 'film' are as follows:
Mechs:
Atlas (red thing with the skull & RAC)
Battlemaster (project phoenix mech)
Jackalope (mech with the long legs)
Mad Cat II (the normal looking Mad Cat)
Mad Cat IV (the funny looking Mad Cat)
Mangonel (thing with the big gun on the front)
Thunder Fox (quad mech)
Vehicles:
Morningstar Mobile HQ (vehicle people were getting out of)
Togugawa Heavy Tank
Yasha VTOL
Infantry:
Angerona Battle Armor
Dropships:
Aurora Dropship
Overlord Dropship
The film depicted a battle between the Republic of the Sphere and Anastasia Kerensky's Wolf Hunter mercenary unit.
And no, I have nothing to do with this film, I just happen to know what is being used in it.

I for one think it has some promise, especially if it is a student/fan film. It is certainly the most likely thing we will get to a movie for MechWarrior/BattleTech.
I'd like to see more for sure before I pass final judgment, but for a short trailer it was pretty damn good.

I think all of us have given some thought to a Battletech movie at one point in time. Recently due to the success of a series like Battlestar Galactica why wouldn't they make a live action TV show out of it? I find it alot more likely to happen if it was broken up across a miniseries or a few seasons. And of course the plot needs to be classic BT, sorry DA fans, but Classic BT had a way bigger following. I think that a TV series that followed the Blood of Kerensky trilogy and was made of the same quality as the new Battlestar Galactica would do amazingly well.
As for this movie, I can't support DA over classic and the 'mech look way too plastic to be actual combatents. Your car is only show room clean once, and this is even more true for 'mechs.

IF they ever do a movie, it would be of the Dark Age storyline. WizKids could care less about us old school fans. They want new blood and thus the movie would be for their product, not Battletech as we knew then and now.

I would just like to mention that they are suppose to be showing off the new Mechwarrior movie that DAVE's school did at Origins this weekend.
And while on the subjects of giant robots in movies... I also believe that the Transformers movie trailer will begin running July 4 and at the start of the new Pirates movie. Which seems silly to me given that it isn't scheduled to release until November of next year last I checked.
