I was just wonderin' if their is anybody out there who is as crazy as I am in the fact that I have always been more into the older (3025 level one tech) battlemechs instead of the new ones. Is it just me or are they more fun? _________________ "Do or do not, there is no try"

Level 1 is fun. Back in those days heat meant something. Why, sometimes my Phoenix Hawk would have to test for shutdown after only two rounds of combat! The modern level 2 wimps start crying if they hit -1 Movement after five rounds.

What I love about level 1 is that after riding your heat high someone comes up laughing cause they are like "I'm going to punch you to death!" and you kill them with machine guns.

I think that both levels of mechs are fun to play with, so no voting from me.

Level 1 is more difficult due to the heat issue, and therefore more challenging to me. I still prefer level 2 as it makes heat more managable, but a well designed mech even in level 2 can present challenges if designed right.

Level one was what got me into the game. And it is definatley more entertaining to play. Although i like the weapons that level 2 adds besides the pulse lasers, it adds alot of diversity to the fighting.
One thing is for sure. Level three took the game one step to far as far as technology goes. All these XXL engines and small cockpits, doesn't interest me. Although the game rules are good.

I dunno, some of the construction stuff is nice. I mean at the benafit of getting 1 ton and 1 crit for a small cockpit you do suffer the +1 to pilot rolls, which at times is detrimental.
Also, the torso mounted cockpit is nice for certain designs. However, the no eject end and extra weight are abit silly IMHO.
Alternate Armors [reflective, reactive, and hardened] and reinforced structure are cool.
Light Autocannons, Laser AMS, Heavy Flamer, Artillery Cannons [snub nose versions,] and CASE II are all pretty cool.
So ya, some of it is ok.

I began to play back in 1985 (?, not too shure about that . It was as soon as BT was available in Germany.) and we had a whole lot of fights and campaignes until level 2 equipment was introduced in the TRO 2750 in 1989!
So if somebody tells me of a Warhammer the picture that stands before my inner eye is that of a WHM-6R!

Not to mention that torso mounted cockpit is also a small cockpit

Yes, First thing I purchased was the BT 4th edition box when it came out in Czech. Unfortunately there were no pics for the unseen, so there is a good possibility that I created firs phoenix mechs then , but than I obtained Black Widow scenario book and the Gray Death trilogy with all those yummy old pictures...
I think that I don't need to say more
Not that the phoenix mechs are entirely bad, some are quite cool, but some are, well...
New Warhammer is one of the least liked for me.

There's a few level three toys I like...generally stuff that increases your tactical options. semi-guided LRMs, for example.
