Final Fantasy 7 Advent children yet?
Just curious what every one has thought of it.

Not much by way of plot, but I loved the action, and it gave me the closure I needed from the game...

I`ve seen snippets and will track down a full version soon
the final final scene with Red XIII just made me hunger for more
I've heard rumours of a remake to improve the graphics but eh theres no need to mess with the story anyway

Agreed, I loved it from bing to end. I thought that the plot and story line were really intended for the person that has played and finished the original game. As I had no problem following the plot (but my wife was a bit confused until I filled her in) it was just amazing.
Now the real rumor I am waiting for is the PS3. It appears they are going to remake the old PS game into a PS3 game with the new movie graphics.
Which does piss me off a bit. Now I will have to get a PS3........

No you won't. The FF7 PS3 footage was simply a technology showcase. Square/Enix announced that it has no intentions of remaking FF7.
Besides, would you really plunk down SIX HUNDRED DOLLARS just to play a remade FF7?

And if you remember the Xbox 360 was originally announced at the same price, same with the PS2. by the time it actually releases they will have dropped the price down by 200 bucks.

I had downloaded a fan-subbed version when it came out in Japan months ago, and then just bought the actual DVD at work when it came in.
Voice acting was very well done, the CGI was amazing (little known fact, SquareEnix have said that the could have more realistic models, but then they might as well had done a live action movie). One key scene is when Cloud puts on those Sun-glasses. Can't tell its CGI at all.
SPOILER ALERT!!!
I thought the plot weak, the Geostigma seemed like a terrible plot device, and given 30 seconds I am sure the masterminds at Square could have thought up something better. My only hope is that the host of new games coming out (Before Crisis and Crisis Core) will actually focus on and build up the story to a pint where things make sense. But this the George Lucas school of expanded universe thought. Ep3 didn't make a hell of a lot of sense unless you read the 2 books and watched the Clone Wars cartoon. Bad move Squeenix, following Lucas' model.
The new characters are completely boring. They seem to be relying on the fact that everyone knows they are Sephiroth clones to actually have any personality. Kadaj, despite having shorter hair and a shorter sword is pretty much Sephiroth with a slightly more high pitched voiced. NO - SEPHIROTH WAS NOT A GOOD VILLIAN. HE HAD NO DEPTH. HE WAS EYE-CANDY...and so are his new puppets. Sephiroth's re-appearance itself could be considered the ultimate fan-ism moment in video game history. Never before has a character been so swooned over. And then Square bumped up the Seph/Cloud love affair with some of the most blatant homo-sexual dialogue sequences ever (NOTE: I am not anti-homosexual. But these characters were not, nor where they ever intended to be, but they gave the yaoi fans so much fodder with here...).
The biggest letdown was Cloud. In the end of FF7 he is willing to risk his life and his sanity in order to overcome Sephiroth's power and attack on the planet. And he does. By the end he is one of the most ready and able bad-asses a sci-fantasy story has ever produced...and then in the begining of AC he has become a pussy again, leaving everything behind to go be emo. DAMN YOU JAPAN! EMO IS NOT COOL! Again...bad plot device Geostigma is probably to blame.
The best part of the movie, as was to be expected, were the Turks. Reno and Rude stole the show in every scene they were in. But I have to say their Japanese versions were a lot funnier. The ultimate point is at the fight in Edge where Reno smacks Rude with his cane, almost hits him a second time...and then smashes Rude's glasses, causing Rude to get mad as hell. Little things like that that the rest of the characters were missing let the Turks soar, but the rest of the cast falls on its face and cries.
My opinion of this movie is, as you can tell, not very high as a FF7 fan. it was fun to watch, but its by no means a great movie.
