Got to demo a game at Gencon called Pirates of the Burning Seas.
Kind of a low tech multiplayer battletech feel to it. Set in the caribbean, with four hostile countries and pirates. Different sized ships, crafting, tactics all made the game rather interesting.
People doing it are at www.flyinglabs.com, and they just started Beta testing.
Don't know if Mordel might be able to make contact with them and see if we can get a bunch of guys in there to help them Beta, but it might work.

That's all a matter of opinion, isn't it? And what happens when you COMBINE them?

Hehe, I've been watching this one for over a year. But I don't do beta, just don't want to do all the same stuff all over again later.
If any of you have played a game called Seadogs, from Akella. Pirates of the Burning Seas is its descendant.
I have Seadogs on the hard drive right now, its a permanent resident.
There was supposed to be a Seadogs 2, in which crewmen would be added to the ship's deck, nicer graphics, though for its time the graphics in the sea battles already kicked ass, and a land combat element would be added too. But then Johnny Depp did that Pirate movie and Disney waved a bunch of money at Akella and they sold it to Disney.
Disney promptly gave it a disneyfied soundtrack, which Seadogs matey I've talked to that played the game... hated. In addition the disneyfied the sea map that had given SeaDogs such a good atmosphere, which everyone hated that wanted Seadogs 2. And there was this problem with hitting a storm your first time out of dock, and getting killed by it every time with no way to sail away from it.
It was tragic.
It was the only computer game I've ever bought, tried, and then destroyed the CD with a hammer.
But there was a guy who didn't give up, he wanted his damn Seadogs 2 and then he decided he wanted it as an online game. So he started working on it, put the word out, others joined, and even Akella themselves chipped in to help make it.
And he called it Pirates of the Burning Sea.

Me? Why do I need to take the point?!? I'm sure I have just as much influence as anyone else. Besides, my 500 MHz PC doesn't run too many games these days. I was shocked when I got Civ IV to run on it.
