--One of the everyday rituals occurs--
*SD enters the B&G, with theatrical gesture handles his daisho to Lurch who accepts it with a disgusted grimace on his face*
Do you have to show me what do you think about my "barbarian" traditions every day?
In bad mood?
Hrmmf.
*Lurch returns to his everyday porcelain mask of indifference, but something's telling you that he's smiling, at least on the inside. Meanwhile SD heads to his seat in the corner and orders himself a tea and a sack of peanuts.*
Not good.
*SD is apparently immersed in an internal monologue of sorts.*
...maybe...
*Well, not so internal...*
No.
*With deepening frown SD checks a few papers he has with him and than starts looking busy while searching through a pile of newspaper sheets until he pulls out The Most True And Fresh Tidings Form The Land Of The Dragon (A newspaper for foreign countries, if you are surprised by the name that look on the names of Kuritan administrative institutions) and starts reading them... bottom up*
Yes, I'm having fun...
*This was nothing unusual, but the thing striking you is the fact that SD no longer bears his unit insignia or rank. The only things visible are badges identifying him as DCMS mechwarrior.*
OOC: Just trying to make something happen here, to move the stale air a little

Remember SD,
If those shells hit the floor, you'll be cleaning them up...
Wouldn't want you to piss off the Waitress.....

*As usual, a rusty Von Luckner heavy tank whips into the parking lot and runs over a car sitting in it's spot. Parafighter gets out, walks into the Bar and Grill, hand Lurch his home made rifles, sits in one of his usual spots and orders an ERPPC. This time however Para has a laptop with him, which he turns on and begins to work on. Everything on it is in an unrecognizeable code, so nobody can tell what he is doing on it.*
OOC: I figured I'd join in.

*Whilst para is distracted by his own cleverness, reaches over and punches 3 keys on the laptop, thus reverting the display to normal mode.*
Hmm, interesting troop movement reports there Para... how exactly do you have such good intel on clanner movements?

"Well, actually thats fake intel incase someone tries to hit keys without my noticing. The laptop doesn't have a working decoder on it."
*Para changes it back to its normal coded mode and continues to work on it.*

Avon militia is undergoing personal changes. Younger personnel replaces the old and those who gained some experience will be transferred to different units. The 2nd Legion of Vega in my case. Most warriors would ask for what, but it's clear that I'm not a trustworthy person for the Combine. Well, at least there would be a good chance for me to see some action.
*SD sips some tea*
I was deemed skilled enough to command mixed lance of mechs, a few tanks and some foot sloggers (I can tell you that, because it isn't considered secret, otherwise I would have the ISF hunting me, even here on Solaris). That's good, but I don't have to tell you what kind of people I'll have to serve with. I hope that the command doesn't expect me to do miracles with them.
*Newspaper lands on the table after SD's dramatic gesture*
But this brings me to the biggest problem. I'm expected to write a haiku, a good one, for my new commander, to show that I'm a worthy candidate for the new position, because the true warrior of the combine must not only be skilled at fighting, but also at poetry and the other arts.
*After a while of searching SD pulls out a paper full of marks resembling scattered dried tea leaves*
That's all I have...
*SD watches ralgith reading through the collection of spots with sour expression on his face, and after a while takes the paper back*
Aehm...
*After clearing his throat SD starts reading*
A cherry blossoms
The blood flows through my veins
The battle is calling
I must apologize for my handwriting, but calligraphy is just another art that I have to master. Is there anyone willing to offer some inspiration?
OOC: What about poetry contest

I could read your caligraphy fine, its my Japanese that is rusty old friend.
OOC: I'd win, I've been writing poetry since my sophmore year of high school, and writing it good. All varieties, dark thoughts, deep tidings of love... it matters not

Poetry and pain?
Are these the things that separate us from dull listless nights of tactics and murder? The only poetry is that the strong opress what they think is best and those who are meek accept it until they find a way to strengthen themselves and overthrow the strong and take their place. And as such...so the cycle continues. It is the poetry of life, and make what you will of it, it is a cycle that cannot be broken by mere mortals.
Victim / Victor, these two words are so alike, and over time one can become the other. _________________ I am disappointed only in your failure to disappoint me.

OOC: Well, maybe that there are other talented writers here ralgith (no I can't count myself to this group). Let's see if someone wants to take part in this.
Yes, the battlefield may be our home, but the muses must cultivate our souls to protect us form falling to rage and barbarism. Wasn't that Sun Tzu, who counted the war among the arts?
OOC: Hmm... Victim/Victor (Stainer - Davion)

I'm not sure if it was or not, I'm still reading The Art of War... my chinese is worse than my japanese hehe.
But, I think you're right.
OOC: LOL, Aye mate, many talented writers here... I only meant I'd win in a contest betwixt the 2 of us.

OOC: the contest would be a free for all - haiku. I don't want to take part because I'm the one seeking inspiration in this topic.
Well, I found this ancient translation...
*pulls a book in bad condition out of his bag*
... it's in 20th century Czech, but I can still read it.

Don't you notice how he's handling it more gently than a newborn baby?
*hands SD a vacuum sealing bookcover machine*
Here mate, you should use this
It seals each page individually so you can preserve the book, yet still read it.
