this is a mech I was going toying with submitting for Neveron. It was not met with much enthusiasm when I presented it to friends to get feedback, so here it is for your enjoyment and derision. All tech is IS

Overview:
Designed and built at the request of one Lord Fang, ruler of several small empires on our great world of Neveron, this mech is a testament to Fang's obsession with the dualing arenas. It is rumored he drew up the plans himself. He wanted a mech that could drop another assault mech in its tracks, and one that struck a memorable visage as well. The extra light engine used in the prototype, as well as the ferro fibrous armor which covers the titans frame were procurred from salvage and reverse engineered. Tragically, the knowledge gained from this procedure was lost to Neveron in a freak lab accident which destroyed all information.
Capabilities:
The autocannons are mounted to appear as wide bore pistols in the mechs hands, with exposed ammo feeds for visual effect.This arrangement also helps alleviate a troublesome jamming issue which arose during testing. The feeds themselves are armored to reduce the risk of a hit touching off an explosion. The Magna Mk III Large Laser gives it a longe range sting, and the Zippo flamer keeps the infantry at bay.
Deployment:
No known deployment of the Gunman is known at this time. Yet oddly, one has been seen battling in the arenas. No word has been heard of how the mech was procurred or who the pilot is. Persisting rumors is that the pilot is the designer, Fang. He has denied all allogations of this as of this writing.
Battle History:
no history is known of at this time of the mechs performance in battle. The one mystery Gunman seen in the dualing arenas has racked up an impressive string of wins, though. It is thought the designers allowed this one model to leave the lab as a kind of advertisment to potential buyers.
Variants:
There has been talk of replacing the ballistic cannons with longe range missles, or ppcs to have the mech fill a fire support role, but the designers are loathe to give up the signature dual cannon weilding visage of the Gunman. There has also been the suggestion of replacing the autocannon with gauss rifles, but that technology is still beyond the reach of our scientists.
I like this design. I think it could have good potential outside of the arenas as a potent city fighter. I also submitted it for the TRO section, along with two variants.

It isn't surprising that the mech wasn't liked. It's expensive (not the main problem), has small amount of ammo (seriously, 7.5 shots for the ACs isn't enough, the King Crab was already criticized for this by many) and lacks any serious long range firepower. It reminds me of an over sized Hunchback.

There is also a variant of the HBK that may offer a solution. The 4H. If you downgrade the ACs and add MLs and ammo, removing a few heat sinks in the process. This may not be as scary as the big ACs, but it should work and it would also allow you to cover your back with your pistols. I don't know with which technology are you working at the moment, but ER weapons and LB 10-Xs would be the next step. I must also mention the fact that the mech may be much smaller with the same weapons and keeping almost full armor too, but decreasing the cost significantly.

Even as the mech stands now it has too many heat sinks. Two of them may be removed in favor of additional armor or a PPC (instead of laser).

WEll, the original intent of the design was to go toe to toe with a comparable sized mech in a dueling environment. In the field agains other more balanced designs, vehicles and infantry, it would be expensive cannon fodder. I made two variants to try to fix this, one involves dropping the right cannon in favor of an LRM20, two tons of ammo, and two med lasers, the second drops the LArge LAser and the right cannon, and picks up an LRM 15, two tons of ammo,3 med lasers, and a PPC

LBX AC20 would be nice in the left hand for that matter, and place the PPC/LRMS or such in the right side

Even in a duel, there may be a problem with getting close. Ammo is not that important, but there is nothing to cover your back or sides. ACs use front firing arc when they have some crits in torso. This isn't so important in a duel unless the enemy has JJs (with 4/6 movement you are not that easy to outmaneuver), or some long range weapons (if there is enough space to avoid you - a problem for the other assaults, they probably don't have the speed to run away, but lighter foes may be annoying).

As a mech that should duel other assaults which don't have the best tech at hand it doesn't sound that bad!

Barrels for the cannons are in the arms, so that widens the arc a little bit. True, getting close would be a problem, and most of the tech in the Neveron Game is lvl1. there are lvl 2 units available, but you have to purchase them, and they are not cheap.

I'm not sure if everything is in place.

Personally I would prefer the PPC variant, but
the one with LRM 20 is also good (maybe
that it would drop a heat sink for something else).

No, it doesn't. Not at least in game terms. The AC act like if they were mounted entirely in torso is they have some crits located there.
(it can be found on p. 114 of BMR, or p. 120 of BMR revised). I don't need to say how do I like this rule when piloting King Crab, Yu-Huang, Lao-Hu or any other mech with an AC/20 mounted this way and the Phoenix Hawk behind it.

Oops. been awhile. I need to go back re read that section. In that case, a rear mounted med laser or two would be a helpful addition

I just created a variant with an LB-20X and three tons of ammo, ER PPC, four med lasers( 1 rear facing, and two in the RA to improve firing arc) and jump jets. no ferro armor either. 14 double heatsinks make it VERY cool to run. Will be in the TRO section as soon as the busy folks moderating the forums get a chance to check it out.
