Some new rifles from South africa and other places:

I think thes are probably the same weapon, but they will penetrate over and inch of steel at 1000 yards.
A visual and concept reference for the Gauss rifles used on some of the BA.

I do wonder why they call it a sniper rifle when it's really only useful for destroying equipment.
A Gauss rifle wouldn't have to look much like that, would it? Different operating principles and all. At 26 or 29 kilograms (20mm or 14.5mm) weight without ammo and the other barrel system a BA would probably be required to make it "infantry" firepower, so that part's right.

Have you seen the Barret M-104 50 cal Sniper rifle? It can be used to destroy light armor and personel, can empty its mag in less then 10 seconds and in the hands of a good sniper dispose of 10 targets at a range of 1.5 miles.
Oh they can give it armor piercing rounds or explosive rounds.
A new show on discover called future weapons is a great show. They highlighted it the other night.

It is a blast to shoot, but the $/round can make it expensive. My uncle has deep pockets tho' a morning of "fam Fire" was pretty fun.

Took a look at that and thought: Hmmm, Master Chief uses something like this...
Yeah. Seems like an overkil weapon. Surely a missile is just as effective at this range. What do you need a single shot 20mm autogun for? _________________ "Politics is the Art of looking for trouble, finding it everywhere, misdiagnosing the problem, and applying the wrong solution."

The latest one has 3 shots, Front of supply column, back of supply column, and the comand car. No rocket trial pointing at you, so reload and start taking out the leaders, even if they are in hardened vehicles. Not as many shots as a .50 cal, but it is probably capable of damaging parts of tanks, penetrating the top armor on APC's (side armor on some). and generally able to haelp out the rest of the squad/platoon.
Picture what a platoon could do if there were a .50 and a 20mm as "sharpshooters". The 20 could focus on the hardened vehicles while the .50 did the rest. The shooters would be pretty effective since there would be no reall sign of where the rounds were coming from, not even a rocket exaust or backblast cloud.
I was mainly presenting some possible imagery for the gauss gun for the BA in battletech. I know the rules for the game would not be able to absorb this item.

I meant that the weapon isn't automatic. I assumed it had a clip.
But this is a heavy, expensive, and hard to use weapon.
An RPG is none of that, as we're learning to our chagrin across the middle east.
And yeah, I could see this as a rail gun, pretty much because we always considered the Halo sniper rifle a rail gun (yeah, sure, it probably isn't, but the contrails were right out of ERASER, and those rail guns were cool). _________________ "Politics is the Art of looking for trouble, finding it everywhere, misdiagnosing the problem, and applying the wrong solution."
