I'll be the first to put my foot in it.
I like the current set up. Whatever you change to, I'll grouse about it for a week, and then I'll be drawn to the threads, find my way around, and decide that it was a good idea after all.
Now, can someone explain to the website amature what hidden means? I already know I don't have access to some forums. Doesn't bother me, I wouldn't want to be in the Saloon, and I'm not a mod (for example).
What would separate these from hidden forums. And what does it mean that having PBeM games hidden would make Mordel more comfortable hosting outside PBeM games? _________________ "Politics is the Art of looking for trouble, finding it everywhere, misdiagnosing the problem, and applying the wrong solution."

"Hidden" means exactly that...hidden. (Boy, wasn't that a great answer)
Certain versions of message board software allow for "hidden" forums, which would be forums that you won't see listed if your user ID isn't approved to see them.
Using the examples that we currently have using the updated software...
The Saloon would be categorized as a "protected" or "private" forum, or one that you can see exists but that you don't have access to enter. That's what any forum here that you click but can't view is now.
The Mod's forum would be "hidden", meaning that unless you were a moderator or admin you wouldn't even see it listed anywhere...it's existence would be "hidden".
The PBeM forums could be either, depending on whatever Mordel decides (or maybe it will be up to each person running the game).
Usually admins and mods have access to all forums, although that occasionally varies by board (and responsibility of mods)

Wel, chief inquisitor, I liked the BBS pretty much as it is. Making the Moderator and PBEM stuff dissapear is okay.
Adding in threads for miniatures and such is probably a good idea. There a a bunch of guys I know who have posted stuff like that on the general thread and got enough response to warrent their own Area.
Some of the other additional categories might be redundant, the general category will be where new people will go and if it become too "generic", they might move on before checking the other stuff. You do have a good point about the search tedium tho'.

You can always ask for help painting in the miniatures section. As for selling, I want to stay away from that. Too many legal ramifications.

Yeah after looking at Chihawks list again. the only thing I might suggest is a Mech yard section in the miniture section. Mabey somewhere we can commission someone to do a paint job for us. Or even sell minitures.
Now before you blast me, I AM NOT SURE IF THIS IS EVEN LEGAL FOR MORDEL TO DO, AND IF HE EVEN WANTS TO ADD THIS, AND OPEN UP THIS CAN OF WORMS.
it is just a suggestion.

I speaks.
Honestly, I will become used to however Mordel decides to remake his forum. I've been hooked here since I found it and I don't think I will be pushed away because of some structuring changes. Just keep the site going And I'll keep coming back to make a nuisance of myself.

Yeah, Dead-Fish hasn't been around for ages, right.....
I love the boards now, I have loved earlier incarnations, I will love the future ones. Not much help, right?
Seriously, the fleshed out boards that chihawk suggested would be cool. I don't like the extra IS / Clan boards, though. Any thread from there should be able to go into the general discussion, easily.

I like Chihawk's ideas, but I agree with someone else wo suggested that the IS and Clan and Merc Forums are not really needed.
I do like the other idea proposed as well aboutgiving the forums titles that fit the theme of the Bar and Grill.
As long as this board continues to be available in any format, I'll be here.

OK having just gotten around to this thread, please forgive my tardiness.
I agree with Chihawk for the most part. I don't think we have enough personalities though at this time to warrant a separate forum for Clan, IS, and Merc. One forum has worked so far and I don't see a need to change this aspect.
I like Hohiro's idea of a 3D landscape if that is possible, but using Chihawks areas.
Something I would like to see is the addition of the major periphery nations to the Factions: Magistracy of Canopus, Taurian Concordat, Calderon Protectorate (same symbol as TC but with Black Stars), Marian Hegemony, Circinus Federation (short lived to be certain). Each one has rank insignias and pictures of them.
Just my 2 cents, for what its worth.
Later,
HC1

Which sourcebook has the rank insignias in them? As I've said, if a faction has ranks and corresponding images, I'll add them here.

Mordel,
Everything that you need can be found in "Field Manual: Periphery", between pages 96 and 97 there is a full color spread.
The following Major Periphery Nations are represented:
Magistracy of Canopus
Taurian Concordat
Outworlds Alliance
Marian Hegemony
Circinus Federation
Like I said before the Calderon Protectorate can be extrapolated directly from the Taurians because the 2 Militaries and Governments are identical. The only distinguishing mark would be the Icon for the faction. The CP uses the Taurian Bull icon but the stars are black. The 6or so next most significant periphery nations icons are also in this section, and the more important pirate group icons are included on the final page.
I hope this helps. And Thanks.
Thanks for including them. I really appreaciate it.
Later,
HC1
