"An 80 ton axe wielding monster from mythology... the Minotaur." At this point in the advertisement, a large fast moving mech explodes out of a completely harmless high rise on some obscure proving grounds. The mech it self is as tall as a BattleMaster with reverse kneed metallic hoofed legs, a bovine shaped head with two large forward sweeping horns, and a huge double bitted axe in the right hand. Enter...the Minotaur.
Capabilities:
the Minotaur was born out of a desire for a fast moving quick strike assault, as well as a common heard comment" Why are all assault designs 100tons?" GZT took the best tech it had on hand ( still, not the greatest, but keep reading. maybe something interesting will happen) and married it to an 80 ton chassis. The Minotaur is equipped with rated 400 extra light engine, to give it unprecedented movement for it's weight class, and 12 and a half tons of Ferro Fibrous armor. It mounts an Extended Range Particle Cannon for long range punch, and Large Laser to deter attackers from getting closer. for those that do close with the Minotaur, the pilot can unleash dual SRM6 launchers. The ammo for the launchers is less than most test pilots desired, but considering that the missiles are not the mechs selling point, the oversight was ignored. The "horns" on the mech are actually its sensor arrays, hidden in protective armored coverings that give the mech its horned appearance. still, it was tempting for several test pilots to try to use the horns in ramming attacks, but with varied results. The visage of a monster come to life is helped along by the head mounted flamer, which has twin nozzles where the creature's "nose" would be. The real up close and personal weapon of the Minotaur is the overly large double bit axe it wields in its right hand. The axe can be used in one or two handed attacks to devastating effect ( Ok, I know that two handed axe attacks are not really allowed, but c'mon. that would be really cool to watch. an 80 ton axe wielding mech swinging the axe down in a double handed arc to smash in the cockpit of the enemy). The Minotaur sports 10 double heatsinks to help cope with the heat created by the ranged weapons.
Deployment:
So far, several Minotaurs have been seen in the Solaris arena's and have been piloted to great effect. NO large orders or inquiries from any mercenary or house units have been reported at this time.

There is currently work on a jump capable variant

oops. original fluff stated the mechs legs were of the reverse knee design, when in actuality they are not. no biggie. _________________ one by one the rabbits are stealing my sanity....

It has potential...but I dislike 'Mechs mounting melee weapons, especially those trying to break out of the mold and become general use. The reason for this is that I used to have an affection for physical attacks like swords and hatchets. After using them extensively though, I dislike the very idea of hatchets and swords, mostly because you roll on the full body table. Even still, I suppose they have their place, I just do not know what it is.
First complaint of substance though, is the lack of CASE. I really always prefer to have the capability to salvage if nothing else.
Other suggestions:
Since hatchets and what not require you to get close, and probably will require very limiting terrain, jump jets are a must, high speed is not. I recommend dropping to a standard 320 rated engine and adding jump jets. Replace the standard large laser with an ER version, and the ERPPC with a large pulse laser. Replace the Flamer with a small laser and then add case to the missile launchers. Might consider replacing them with four Streak SRM-2s, but that's just me.

you suggestions are good. I usually played in a city environment(Ever see a Battle Master skid head first into a larg hardened building?), so I have noticed I tend to design with that in mind. Never did a lot of sniping or at range fighting. Dodging buildings and vehicles while charging up my heatscale. The suggestions you make though, would make me think of an oversized Axeman, almost. Which is not a bad thing. Let me see what I can work out, and I will post the Mino with changes soon. _________________ one by one the rabbits are stealing my sanity....

Minotaur revamped. It still has the axe. Sorry. I just like the way it looks. here is what has changed, with several different ideas:
movement drops to 4/6, but I still use andXL engine. 2 jumpjets are mounted in each leg which make movement 4/6/4,and the armor is increased to 15.5 tons of standard armor, dropping the ferro crits. I gain 3 additional double heatsinks, and am able to swith out the 2 SRM6 launchers and ammo for a single LRM15 launcher, 2 tons of ammo, and a half ton left for case in the left torso by the LRM ammo

There is also a strictly arena bound model. keeps the 5/8 movement, drops the ERPPC and replaces it with a large pulse laser in the right torso, and keeps the large laser in the left arm. instead of SRMs it has MASC in the left torso. Fast and mean, just the way I like it. this has no good use anywhere except in an arena environment, though. It also only has 13.5 tons of ferrofibrous armor.
