Greetings all!

I have a quick question for you all in terms of Btech history and pulse lasers. I'm trying to come up with some fluff for a SL era design and was trying to do my homework on this one. According to canon, which was the first Mech to mount them? I double checked my 2750 TRO and was surprised to see that not one design used them.

Thanks,

I'm not sure, but I don't think that the pulse lasers were popular in SL era. They are accurate, but their range is a limiting factor, so they would be installed in units that wanted them, but there was no 'Mech or vehicle designed with pulse lasers in mind. after SW era the 'Mech-grade pulse lasers reappeared around 3040, but they were still used (and produced) as portable weapons even in that lostech era. Different thing would be the production of clan military.

not quite sure but i think pulse tech was as new to the IS as the clans were.

Pulse Lasers are on page 8 of TRO2750, so they're quite old.

What's really strange is that only one design in the entire book (the Lightning hover tank) had pulse lasers.

Apparently the SLDF didn't quite trust the new stuff at that time. Should we assume that the units in TRO 2750 are the things the army used and any private production was left out?

Some of the designs in TRO 3050 were said to be SL-era mechs. There was a light mech, the Falcon, that used pulse lasers. Or am I mistaken?

The FLC-4P Falcon (the one I'm assuming you're referring to) is fluffed in TRO3050 Revised as being a Wolf's Dragoons recovered-tech refit of the Falcons the Dragoons already had.

Pulse laser personal weapons are mentioned in TRO 3026, so the pulse technology wasn't lost completely after the fall of SL for house of the IS and ComStar still used (and probably was able to produce) them even in this period.

TRO 3058 had a lot of old SLDF designs...I'm pretty sure that there are some pulse lasers on those 'mechs.

On the other hand, pulse lasers are so broken that I really don't mind that they don't pop up very often in 2750.

The units in TRO2750 are the ones used in addition to those in TRO3025 and also a few in TRO3050+ are mentioned as having been in use back during the Star League but were either severly decimated or have fallen into disrepair because of the higher level of tech needed to keep those units in opperating condition.

The Lightning Hover of TRO 2750 (2 MdPL) was designed in 2696 by Curtiss Industries under contract for Star League!
The FNHK-9K Falcon Hawk (1 SmPL) was developed (not produced) in 2768 by Kallon under contract for Star League (Production didn´t take place because of the Amaris War).
The NTK-2Q Night Hawk (1 MdPL) was build in 2565 by Mountain Wolf Battlemechs under contract for Star League, too!

So Pulse Lasers were invented somewhere before 2560 i think!!
