With hardly a wisper the door opens and in walks a woman thought long dead. her uniform is dirty but there is still a burning gleam in her eyes. with her face mostly hidden by her long dark hair, she slips to teh bar and hands over a large beat up old book from her pack.
" I found it" she says in a very low tired voice
" a Gutenberg Bible. first printing take it and keep it safe and please bring me a tea"
turning to face all of the new ( and a few old) faces in the bar.
" Ah, good, new people to kill....."
she says, grinning ......

Hello Daphne. Been awhile. I myself only just returned. You in need of new employment? I'm in need of new pilots.

Sorry Major, but you'll be back to recruiting again. We need 3 'mech pilots, a tank gunner, an aerospace pilot, a dropship engineer, and 2 new medium 'mechs. Was a bad time in the periphery I'm afraid. Oh, and we lost Johannes. Sorry mate, I know he was the best tech in your lance... but the hangar was shelled by repeated autocannon fire. He took a round almost directly. Wasn't even enough to bury. I sent a commendation on to his wife, and set up a pension already.

Seraph looks in shock at the news.
"Dang sir, it's getting almost too common to be doiong this."
Seraph wipes a tear from his eye as he leans back in his chair.
"Barkeep! I need a stiff drink to salute a fallen friend."
Raising his glass of moonshine to the empty seat near him, Seraph stands.
"To a fellow friend and comrade, may he finally find the rest he sought for so long."
Seraph downs his glass in a gulp and pushes his chair in.
"Donning his coat he turns to mutter something to ralgith then heads for the door.

Poor bastard. That's his 3rd chief tech in the 3 years our unit has been together. All to stupidly bad luck. He blames himself, though I don't see why. Especially NOW, since I had commandeered the man to temporarily work with MY lance.
*shakes his head in disbelief that the sheer oddity of it all, but still raises his glass in the toast, though to the Major's retreating form*
