There is some serious firepower hidden in this configuration. The large lasers and gauss riffle provide sufficient firepower at range, while the medium laser battery can cause heavy damage at short range. Good, but again, watch out for crit. relocation.

You really went crazy with the crit. relocation bit on this one I think...I rather like a lot of the configs Defensor came up with on this 'mech, with the big exception of the Prime. Except for the Timber-Wolf replacement bit, which doesn't make much sense...

still, I think this 'mech is solidly in the 3-3.5 range. If the fluff was better, I'd be giving out 4-4.5 ratings

Exactly, 3.5 - 0.5 for crit relocation - 0.5 for being a copy = 2.5 I gave it.

It isn't a bad 'Mech and there are no obviously stupid decisions, weapons are adequate and so are the armor and speed. But that would be all. It doesn't earn any negative (or positive) points for fluff and it didn't make any special impression on me, so 3.5 would be for a well made 'Mech. This one has flaws.

If you want to give it better rating than please go ahead. That's the best thing you may do. Truly objective rating is a result of multiple subjective opinions.

Yes, it may sound funny, but with current rating system the rating shows what do the reviewers think about the design in general, while a quick look on reviews allows you to see how much the ratings differ. There isn't much to say about designs with homogeneous rating, while differing ratings shows that only a part of the group likes the design. Finding out why is interesting to me too.

of course that means that a rating between, say, 2.8-3.8 (not thinking about this in great detail, but basically in the midrange) either represents a comparatively mediocre design, or controversy...i.e., a rating of 3 could represent two reviews of 3, or one review of 5 and another of 1.

I also suspect that there could be an anchoring effect in the reviews; people probably base their own rating of a design relative to other ratings which other reviews made earlier, so if the first reviewer gives a 'mech a 3, and I like it, I'll give it a 3.5, whereas if the first reviewer gives a 'mech a 2, and I like it, maybe I'll just give it a 2.5 or a 3.

Sometimes, sometimes not. That doesn't change the fact that this is the most objective rating you can get at the moment.
