Just got home from work and saw on the Fox news site that Saddam got his neck stretched today.

I guess those guys really are learning some American style democracy, his trial sure lasted long enough to meet American standards. But they hung him real quick after that so I guess they haven't taken classes on the apealing till he dies first of old age part yet.

Well now that they done it, let's see how it plays out with all the spin doctoring that will be done on it...by all sides both here in the US and aboard.

Yep, the news channels are already full of predictions of massive Baathist bloodshed. Me, I'm betting more on less Baathist bloodshed. What do they have left to fight for now that he's dead?

Good point. The news last night was calmer and less apolistic and more level on what they reported.

I guess some of the pictures of them stringing up Saddam have made it on the net...

He is dead. If the Baathist want to rise up, then they will, but given how many of the normal Iraqis aren't part of the eliteist party then it's going to be a small rising centered around Tikirt, which is a hell hole and well patroled town by both the US and Iraqi military.

If the Baathist stand up and fight, then they need to do it and get it over with. Other wise they like their leader are nothing but wind bags and will be forgotten.

On the other hand, the Saudis sounded pretty displeased. Seems the Iraqi managed to hang old Saddam on a muslim holy day...

Actually they did it before sunrise so by the relgious rules they didn't do anything wrong. No I think the Saudis are more worried about the fact that now Saddam is gone it means they don't have anything play against US turning it's intrests to rebuilding Iraq and keeping it a democractic nation or something close to it.

The US might be upping security over this.

I saw a few days ago they sent John Stennis to the gulf. (that puts 2 carriers there, when normally we only keep one.)

I say might, because there is conflicting analysis over whether this is to provide additonal support to the ING, or to threaten Iran. They did it the same day, though.
