Okay this a short take on idea that I ran across in some notes of mine, (I need to type it up and I have a pressing matter to finish before that happens.)

The idea is simple make the battlearmor of the Clans modular. This idea would allow it to carry other weapons like LRMs and upto a medium Laser.

This has some bugs but that is the basic idea, now how would you folks go about doing this? What woud you suggest? Please let's keep this on track and not sprialing off into anything else. Ok?

So comments and suggestion?

Most battle armor is omni really. It has hard points that can accept a variety of equipment. Usually a SLAS, MG or SRM1. Anti-personnel weaponry is also very variable even on a single suit.

It's not especially hard either, since the trick with an omnimech is balancing it right, when the guy in the suit can help take care of the balance in an Elemental.

That being said, outside of the Mechwarrior RPG, most battle armor deviates VERY little from standard even though it could.

Edit: Also, the reason most battle armor do not mount LRMs or MLAS is because of the weight. Some battle armor are capable of it, such as the Hauberk and Fenrir. Only the Fenrir is modular though... I have not had a chance to study the rules of the Hauberk, sadly, but I believe the missile tubes are fixed equipment for it, much like the missile launchers on standard clan elementals.

Fair enough, but with that in mind things like the support PPC and such would make sense as would some of the weapons that the Protomechs can mount like the smaller LRMs...

From the rules I've seen, it's not that great a weapon. (The support PPC that is.) It generates a LOT of heat, which makes the MLAS more attractive. If you have the space for the heatsinks, then you have the space probably for the extra mass of the laser.

The problem you really run into is that the SLAS has a lot of power and versatility. So you only see it swapped out for special purposes. And with most BA, you only have space for the three big choices.

That being said, you could always create new battle armor. I like seeing new designs for battle armor, personally. (Still wish I could find the info for the Hauberk.)

Um... Battle Armor doesn't track heat.

*shrugs* The rules I have say that it does. But much like the rules for vehicles, there's no heat scale, so you must carry enough sinks to shunt out all waste heat possible.

... But at this point, the discussion is devolving more and more into the specifics of battle armor creation and rules, and I have the free "not quite it" rules rather than something official.
