I have recently started repainting all of my minatures, I currently have around 60 so its not a small job! But I have decided rather than have sixty individual jobs or a few similar ones. I have gone for splitting my mechs up into lances and painting them that way.

What I am looking for is a paint job for my Templar, Crusader, Black Knight and Centurion. I want a crusader style paint job in the Knights Of Templar style, but i can't really find any models to base it on.

Does anyone know of any pictures that have this kind of camoflague. The templars used the well known White field with a red cross. So I fancy something that combines Red, White and silver. But it could easily look tacky.

Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Osprey books might give you a good idea or six.

Well I would go with a silver base with red and white trimming/accents. Mostly because painting with white is hard as hell.

I will try and paint something up that may help and Ill try to post a picture of it when I have it done. I have several that I have been wanting to paint as well and I like the color combo.

I like your idea. Check this out:

you could leave it the same but go for silver gun barrels, or perhaps change the blue on the mechs to black or steel.

What about gun-metal arms, lower legs and head (ye olde full plate), silver details and barrels (shining weapons), white shoulders, torso and upper legs (surcoat) and red cross over center torso and chest on front and rear.

I like Dragon's idea, that sounds rather simple. My painting skills are improving but they are still a little lacking. Maybe once I have finished them I'll take a pic and post it so you can comment.

That would make a nice idea for a board, but I doubt it would be used enough to legitimize Mordel creating it.

Here's what you need to do.

1. Apply a coat of Testor's black acrylic paint straight to the bare metal. If you do it right, then the metal should soak up the paint; the top layer of metal will turn black, but it will leave the fine details intact.

Let dry for a period of at least 30 minutes.

2. Do a layer of silver acrylic paint across the entire mini. This will be your official base for the paint scheme.

Let dry 30+ minutes.

3. Add white-colored highlights using a white paint marker. Paint markers are about 3* as much as a bottle of model paint, but they're worth it.

Let dry 30+ minutes.

4. Using a fine-tipped brush and acrylic paint, paint a red cross to the chest of the mini.

Again, let dry.

5. Paint the viewscreen and weapons barrels if you desire.

Let dry.

6. Apply a layer of gloss clear-coat; I myself use Delta Ceramcoat. Not only will the clear-coat provide protection for your miniature (especially since you're using acrylic), but the gloss shine does wonders for everything.

Let dry 15+ minutes.

7. Paint the terrain at the mech's feet. Once it's dry, clear-coat that as well.

This may appear time-consuming, but I use the assembly line method when I paint: I'll paint multiple minis at once, thereby applying the same coat to each of them all at once.

That was how I painted my Dark Angel Army, as an assembly line. Worked for all but my special charaters. had most painted in a day or two.

With me, it's not very often that I have a chance to paint. The whole assembly line bit helps to maximize what time I have.
