How do most of you go about selecting terrain to do battle over?
Do you use the random map generators?
Do you turn a bunch of maps upside down and then pick at random?
Do you have each player draw one map and what ever is drawn is what is used?
For those of you who use 3D terrain, (i.e. Geo-hex or other similar items) how do you pick what is actually used?
If you have a home grown way of picking maps etc...could you share it with us?
Also if you use a combo of maps and 3D Terrain any ideas on how that helps or what not are welcome as well...

Well, I usually generate the forces I want to use second, after generating the scenario type. Then I pick whatever maps look like fun and will keep the contest even.
Usually this means some maps get used more than others, but I try to keep all of them in rotation.

I only have two maps to begin with...
On megamek, when we build a large map, I have it randomize the board, and then go through to clean it up.
For example, if a city block appears in the middle of a mountain, I'll drop out the city and put the other half of the mountain in.
If it's a scenario, I'll use the map editor to make a map, or I'll random-map and clean up with appropriate terrain

Depends on who I play with.Folks on the same level as I am, We usually select at random for quick battles, and scenarios use what terrain the person creating the scenario decides. WHen I play with my son (11 almost 12. Found daddy's Bt stuff, and wanted to learn to play) we use the standard maps that came with my second edition boxed set. You know, with the hills at the edges, and the pnod in the middle. came with four total I think. If I am GMing, I like to be mean, and use a map or tow form the Solaris boxed set. I like the Jungle, The Factory with working elevator, and Iron Moutain. _________________ one by one the rabbits are stealing my sanity....

Since I only seriously play about 3 or 4 times a year, I will first design a scenerio based on some canon engagement. Then I try to use some maps that somewhat fit, while also taking into consideration the maps I have yet to make into 3-D. That forces me to make them! For this year's Totalcon I still need to finish my canyon maps and a few solaris7 maps need to be repaired. I either need to start getting up earlier or staying up later! Only a month to go!

I also have only a few maps...
But I use the Generated Terrain features of MegaMek instead of random. Its... niiiice. Especially in 0.32.2 Lotsa extra random capabilities.

It depend on how much time I have.
Right now I had completely change scale of hex,
I get 2 BattleHex sets and it take just few minute
on creating a tabletop scenario.

I generally go by what I have finished at the time. But I'm odd that way.
