I know there's a lot of talk on this site about guns and such, but do any of y'all actually own any? I personally own a Springfield Armory XD in .40 caliber, a Desert Eagle in .44 Magnum, and a FN Five-SeveN (those are all handguns by the way, to those of you that don't know).

Here you just have to be over 21 and not a felon (a criminal that has spent a year or more in jail, to those of you that don't know). God bless America!

No guns. My father owns one, but I don't want to have one unless it would be necessary. _________________ The dragon NEVER sleeps!

Use to own a Colt .45. Not any more. My wife hates them. But she has agreed when my sons get a little older to take them to the range for some gun safety. Too many idiots hiding a pistol in the drawer thinking junior will not find it.
With the US getting more urban and more immigrants from gun control nations the weaker I think the NRA and 2nd amendment will become.
As for the rest of the world wondering why we are armed to the teeth? Your countries were settled eons ago by hunter gatherers or an Army lead the way. In the US settlers (farmers, traders, huntsman) displaced the local population and took over. They had to have guns to be able to do it. Most of the time the army was way behind the westward expansion.
Plus we distrust our government and are fearfull of the Canadian onslaught that will come sweeping from the great white north one day.

While a spiked flail is more than adequate for home defense, it does not make a good weapon for concealed carry (that is, if you live in a state that allows concealed carry, most do, except mine ). Also a quality firearm can be used to dispatch various pests and varmints, which might be difficult with a flail or sword.

Actually my broadsword is abetter home defense. It is bigger, more noticable, and much more intimidating. Nothing says, "Get the hell outta my home!" quite like a broadsword.
Also, I have killed a rabbit with a throwing knife. _________________ If ignorance is bliss, then why are you so miserable?

There's a nunmber of weapons in the family, though I don't have many.
The one's I have are mainly for display. I have an Masai spear, knife, and shield, and warclub, which I could probably use to hurt someone. I dropped the spear once and it put a hole in the carpet.
I have a Toledo fencing short-sword which is pretty much a wall ornament.
Other members of the family have shotguns, rifles, and pistols.
My Uncle tells the story of living in Arkansas in the mid-30s. A couple of rattlesnakes got into the house, so he and Granddad went after them with shotguns loaded with buckshot. The buckshot would sink into the wood, but bounce off the metal. So when they got into the kitchen to kill the snakes, they wouldn't damage Grandmother's stove.
I recall that shortly after this, my uncle started carrying the shotgun everywhere, stopped wearing shoes, and this drove Grandmother to tell Granddad "My son is not going to grow up to be an Arkansas hick. I'm going to Witchita, and Bob and John are coming with me. You're welcome to come if you want."
It was the depression era, so it was hard to move around (much less sell the farm), but they managed.
I imagine today this would never happen. Ah, the days gone by.
And on the topic of the US 2nd Ammendment, there was a recent case on that. I didn't catch if it was USSC or District of Columbia District Court, but the DC gun control laws were struck down. Was in the paper on Tuesday or Wednesday.

Yes I always thought it was interesting that that the only two cities in the U.S. that have a ban on handguns, Washington D.C. and Chicago, are also number 1 and number 2 for most homicides. Looks like those gun control laws worked real well... I think that alone proves beyond a shadow of a doubt that gun control is not an answer to anything and will only make crime worse. Right now Illinois isn't as bad as California but its still pretty bad. There's no concealed carry whatsoever and you can't have a loaded gun in your car (even in the trunk). You can still buy brand new AR-15s and AK-47s in like every gun store but I don't know how long that'll last because the Dems are always trying to ban them here.

well honestely when was the last time you needed an fully automatic assault rifle? Oh that is right never.
Though I dont own one I have several friends that do. Hell a friend of mine almost bought a barret little 50. at a gun show, the guy was selling it for 1500usd. He was sorly tempted but figured his girlfriend would have a fit. _________________ Stinger If it's "creepy" to use the Internet, military satellites, and robot aircraft to find a house full of gorgeous young models so I can drop in on them unexpected, then FINE, I'm "creepy". He never said they were the military models. Most gun stores sell the semi auto-only models. _________________ Evil is like a bowl of oranges. Only one, instead, is an orange of DOOM. That orange has a fate to rule over the other oranges with an iron fist. That orange is me.

Warhammer is correct. You can only buy the semi-automatic versions of these weapons. Full-auto guns have been illegal since the 1930s unless you have a Class 3 gun licence, which is expensive and hard to get, in addition to being subject to a hell of a lot of restrictions.
The AR and AK are really popular for target shooting, since they are fun to shoot, have low recoil, and their ammo and magazines are common and inexpensive. Also, the AK is really cheap (about $500, or less than most hanguns) and the AR is accurate and highly customizable. When I go to the Bass Pro indoor rifle range usually 60% of the guys there was one of these two guns. By the way, for those of you who don't know, the AR-15 is the semi-auto version of the M-16.
