Well, Spring is springing, and it's warming up, which means it's time to gear up for one of my favorite outdoor activites: Painball (and no, that ain't a typo!)

I've been looking into paintball "tanks" recently, and there are a jillion ideas out there, everything from ATVs with cardboard boxes on them to actual military surplus tracked vehicles.

Then I thought about the Timberwolf-shaped treehouse the guy made for his kids. My mind kept turning it over. Battletech . . .paintball. . . Battletech . . .paintball . . .

SO, any ideas on how I can make a paintball-shooting 'mech this summer? I determined the full-size 100-ton Ushabti I normally pilot in games is out, but I think a 'mech-like exoskeleton might work. Something 7-8 feet tall for starters.
But, it's got to be
    Affordable
Relatively simple to build & operate
Either powered, or light enough that the wearer can move it without falling over
Armored (except for an obvious target area)
And of course, look fairly cool

Any suggestions?

I've only got one word for you:

Plastics.

Beyond that, no idea.

I would think growing you're hieght 2 feet or so would be a safety hazard on anything not asphalt. (you'll trip over roots, or clothesline yourself on trees)

But at best I see something like a commando or wasp costume you wear over your clothes.

Would have to agree with Saber on that one.
1. Plastics. easier to work with, and lighter.
2. Wooded area may not be the best environment for something like this. While you should have someone there with a cam as a guy in an eight foot wasp outfit clotheslining himself on a tree branch or doing a faceplant as he trips over roots would be a real youtube moment.
Still, would be interesting to see what you come up with.
