If you could choose 1 specific mech to be the basis for another LAM, which one would it be?
Thanks. _________________ "I wish I could write as mysterious as a cat." -Edgar Allen Poe"I knew there was something special about you, but I never realized you were really a cat." Wolfwood to a random cat (Trigun)

I second that! Just drop the speed to 7/11/7 and you can go with the same weapons, armor and tonnage! _________________ Reality is where the Pizza-man comes from!'Gucken, petzen, verpissen!' Semi-related question.
Suppose that, during a battle in space, an air mech transformed into mech mode, landed on top of a moving shuttle, and then kicked off of it before transforming back into fighter mode.
What would happen to the shuttle? _________________ "I wish I could write as mysterious as a cat." -Edgar Allen Poe"I knew there was something special about you, but I never realized you were really a cat." Wolfwood to a random cat (Trigun)

Not an answer, but i think that aspect may be the single most underrated ability of a LAM. Land on a Warship and unload on its weapons and stuff. Terror on legs to a Warship. _________________ one must work hard to cultivate the mind and body. and one must always cultivate the mind.

It's a similar concept to the destruction of the Trade Federation command ship orbiting Naboo and the first Death Star. Both of them were designed around engaging dropships and capital ships in the belief that their complement of fighters could handle any fighters, bombers, or shuttles that would attempt a strike. And with both, you had fighters that were indeed able to sneak past the fighter complement and strike at a critical component.
I imagine that for dropships and capital ships in BTech, even the point defense systems have a limit to their angle of firing; otherwise, you'd run the risk of having weapons emplacements blow each other up.
Now, shuttles might actually have a better time of it; they're small, and so it would be harder for a LAM pilot to actually land on top of one. _________________ "I wish I could write as mysterious as a cat." -Edgar Allen Poe"I knew there was something special about you, but I never realized you were really a cat." Rules for 'Mechs in space according to AT2 are in Combat Operations starting om p.74.
'Mechs and BAs on ship's surface and automatically hit armor or critical system with to-hit roll. If the damage exceeds the Armor Threshold, the crit. occurs... _________________ The dragon NEVER sleeps!

I saw a site (fairly recently) where someone made a LAM out of a Sagitaire.
A 100-ton LAM. I haven't been able to figure out how they accomplished it, but It'd scare me.
At that point, though, I'd like a Marauder LAM.
Legally, I'd go with the Shadow hawk. (actually I already did)

The title on this thread made me think of an idea I had a long time ago. The basic idea was that you could have the torso assembly of a battlemech (along with all the bonuses such an assembly gives you - like arms), and mate it with what were essentially maneuverable fusion jets for "legs".
It was an inherently silly notion, in retrospect.

I think that's what Dream Pod 9 did in their "Jovian Chronicles."
Yeah, an odd idea. I STILL want to know how they jerry-rigged the Sagitaire into a LAM, though.

Panther, or Tarantula for kicks.
AWAD- LAMs are so cool but do not really belong in the BTech universe
