I went and re-watched G. I. Joe: The Movie last night.
For those who haven't seen it, the opening credit sequence involves members of the Joe team attempting to save the Statue of Liberty from destruction. Most of the Joes had jet packs, and all of the ones with jet packs were armed; one Joe had a rocket launcher, while the rest had laser rifles.
Now, it's not realistic for them to have been so heavily armed as there was no way for them to control their jet packs.
But I did get to thinking.
Although rarely used, jetpack infantry exist in the BTech rules. I figure that if such a trooper is properly trained, then they might be able to operate their jet pack using only one hand. This would leave the other hand free to operate one-handed weaponry.
While this would normally mean pistols, it also raises the prospect of jet pack soldiers armed with grenades and other explosive devices. This would theoretically allow them to jet on up to the heads of battlemechs, plant explosives against the canopy glass or entrance hatch, and seriously injure (if not kill) the pilot.
Munchy or not?
Thanks. _________________ "I wish I could write as mysterious as a cat." -Edgar Allen Poe"I knew there was something special about you, but I never realized you were really a cat." Wolfwood to a random cat (Trigun)

Okay I admit I am behind on things...but the last GI Joe move I recall had Don Johnson providing the voice for Flint's brother or something like that and it was a cartoon style movie, not as good as the Transformer cartoon movie, so are we talking about the same thing?
As for it being munchy what you suggest...in my opinion no more so then WoB gaining the power and ability to launch a galaxy wide holy war or for them to raise an army as quickly and easily as they did. If you want it as part of your story or RPG game then it's not that munchy. _________________ Karagin Only the dead have seen the end of war. - Plato

Sounds neat to me actually, but you'd need lots of courage to even try that, given that if the 'Mech counters your attack by even brushing you aside, you're looking at near fatal injury most likely. Plus, you might miss, and then you're sort of out of luck. _________________ Jarylan Blackwell

I would say a top turret mounted energy weapon with a control system much like the one found in the Apachee helicopter would be ok. And even feasible. Any thing with recoil though and your going to risk stalling I think. But that brings up the question ok what weapons recoil? Well all ballistics with the exception of 2 The gauss rifle and the Gyrojet would give little to no recoil.
As for it being munchy? No. No where near the level of the WoB debacle, lets all admit it now, they did that so they could start over because they didnt want to write themselves out of the corner they had written them selves into.
But I am getting side tracked. I see it being a likley attack. I think the craziest of all the gusy would try it, And if he succeded then hey it works and he is a hero, if he goes Splat! well then he was nuts and wont be adding to the gene pool any more. _________________ Stinger If it's "creepy" to use the Internet, military satellites, and robot aircraft to find a house full of gorgeous young models so I can drop in on them unexpected, then FINE, I'm "creepy". Aren't we just talking about the jump infantry with anti-Battlemech training? The attacks on actuators and swarm attacks actually involve explosives, don't they?
And to control problems and armament I would like to say that in the age of neuro-helmet the trooper should be able to operate something with both hands. _________________ The dragon NEVER sleeps!

Yeah.
Rhino released it on DVD back around 2001.
The "extras" include most of the public service announcements from the cartoon series. _________________ "I wish I could write as mysterious as a cat." -Edgar Allen Poe"I knew there was something special about you, but I never realized you were really a cat." Wolfwood to a random cat (Trigun)

Another thing I got to thinking about.
Remember the Kanga?
Would it be munchy to re-introduce jump tanks into the game? _________________ "I wish I could write as mysterious as a cat." -Edgar Allen Poe"I knew there was something special about you, but I never realized you were really a cat." Wolfwood to a random cat (Trigun)

Depends...the idea isn't that bad, but how do you set it up so folks don't DFA with the Kanga. I look at it as the very first step toward grav tanks...but still the rules need to be worked out some more. _________________ Karagin Only the dead have seen the end of war. - Plato

Considering that we're dealing with a hovercraft, which by definition needs fans or something else beneath it so that it can hover, I'd say that if anyone tries to DFA using a hovertank they'd automatically destroy their locomition system and would from then on only be able to move by jumping. _________________ "I wish I could write as mysterious as a cat." -Edgar Allen Poe"I knew there was something special about you, but I never realized you were really a cat." It's theoretically possible, but a DFA would still destroy the conventional locomotion. _________________ "I wish I could write as mysterious as a cat." -Edgar Allen Poe"I knew there was something special about you, but I never realized you were really a cat." Wolfwood to a random cat (Trigun)

It's theoretically possible, but a DFA would still destroy the conventional locomotion. | The difference between a tracked and a hover jump tank would be that a tracked jump tank would destroy his track EVERY TIME he uses his jump equipment !
A hover uses a cushion of air to land after a jump, if he is capable of jumping like the Kanga.
The orignal idea of developing Jump hover tanks like the kanga was to have vehicles which are able to jump over obstacles which they cant cross, like small stripes of wood.
I dont know what happens accourding to the rules if you jump in a wooded hex with a Kanga, but it should be either destroyed or suffer damage like from a DFA.
By the way, even Mechs risk loosing their legs when they make a DFA ...
