I loves me some aircraft, and some other people here probably do too, so I thought I would make a thread for the discussion of aircraft. Talk about your favorites, compare and contrast, or ask a few questions if you'd like, or you could just put in random and useless pearls of information in here.
And my first random and useless pearl is about the MiG-25. Yes, a Soviet-era aircraft.Yes, comparatively primitive to even fighters of it's time. To my knowledge the MiG-25 is the fastest combat aircraft ever designed. The airspeed indicator red lined at Mach 2.8, but one MiG-25 made a pass over Israel in 1973 traveling at speeds greater than Mach 3.1, possibly as much as Mach 3.35. Freakishly fast, even by today's standards. The ejection system allows for the pilot to eject while the aircraft is at Mach 2.67, a record yet to be beaten. _________________ "I prefer to fight for a meaningful purpose, rather than to provide a spectacle for the ignorant masses."

I think that Lockheed SR-71 is faster, and it had an armed variant, but it was only experimental, the YF-12A.
Some russians construction were truly amazing (we don't have advanced radar microprocesors... we can use the old radar, but bigger, we don't have advanced composites to make lighter chassis... we can use stronger engine). Some new creations, like Sukhoi Su 47 or 34 look pretty impressive, but I liked some of the older onest as well. MiG 15, 21 and 29 (even the 23/27), Su 25 and 27 are very nice planes with good performance.
On the other side of the ocean I liked the F-14, 15, 16 (sorry hornet lovers, but while your plane is pretty impressive, I won't put it here... oh I did that now ) and out of the older jets the F-4, 8, 101and 104. Of the new projets I liked the YF-23 the most, but the 22 looks promising as well.
I also like the Mirage 2000, English Electric lightning , Hawker Hunter and form geman jets... the Me 262A and Ar 234 (not the 4 jet variant, C if I recall that correctly). While those WWII planes look odd in this company, they are still one of the nicest planes and their capabilities were well ahead of their time. _________________ The dragon NEVER sleeps!

I decided not to credit the SR-71 with the fastest combat aircraft award because in it's production form it wasn't armed, unless you count cameras.
Sukhoi's Su-27 and Su-33 are considered by a lot of people on both sides of the Atlantic to be on par with or possibly exceed the F-22 Raptor in terms of dog fighting ability, according to what I've read. Course, that has yet to be proven in battle.
The more modern versions of the MiG-29 are extremely effective combat aircraft. Several were obtained from Germany after it's reunion following the collapse of the Soviet Union. Luftwaffe and USAF pilots played a series of wargames with them, and found that in close to medium range combat the MiG-29 can outperform both the F-15 and F-16, which are still the primary air superiority aircraft for the USAF. The F-22 is still only in limited service, with less than a hundred in active duty. A lot of people assume that simply because it was designed by the Soviets that it has to be crap...clearly, it isn't the case.
I like the MiG-19 out of all the older MiGs...mostly because of the three 30mm revolver cannons. F-104 Starfighter is nice, too...I love the look of that flying nail. _________________ "I prefer to fight for a meaningful purpose, rather than to provide a spectacle for the ignorant masses."

There are so many aircraft i like!
I'll divide them into two categories: beautiful Aircrafts and interesting aircrafts (which tend to be very ugly though )
The most beautiful plane i've ever seen is the Hawker Siddeley Hunter (the single seaters)! Others were the GD F-16, Messerschmitt Me 262A, Heinkel He 162 and the prop-driven Bristol Beaufighter, Westland Whirlwind, Grumman F7F, DH Mosquito.
Interesting planes: BAC Lightning, Westland Lysander, Fieseler Fi 156, Handley Page Heyford, McDonnell XF-85. _________________ Reality is where the Pizza-man comes from!'Gucken, petzen, verpissen!' Not tomention that the MiG 29 can work from improvised airfields. Those shark-like intakes are a nice idea to prevent debris and dirt being sucked in the ingine during start and landing.
I like the look of the two-seat variant, the 29UB, with canopy prononged to nose area. _________________ The dragon NEVER sleeps!

DC-10- Very comfortable for a big guy. First class seats and room for an old plane were great
777- Especially on Singapore Airlines. Damn thing is spacious. And first class, out of this world.
And I bet most of you thought I would talk fighters and the like.
CRJ- for anything under 1 hour. Small as hell, but fast, manuverable and because of them more flight options to get in and out of places.
AWAD- DC-9 old, loud, cramped, but reliable.
