A scientist in the Ukraine has published a theory to explain Ball Lightning.
The phenomenon has baffled observers for centuries: a round glowing ball with mysterious properties, which seems to defy gravity and physics, floating through the air, bouncing off of solid objects, shifting shape to squeeze through tight passages and reforming into a ball after, damaging some surfaces and leaving others unscathed.
Seems the theory is that a lightning strike stirs up a mist of materials which combine to form an aerosal of "nano-batteries", which swirl about in a cloud shorting each other, releasing thermal energy to cause it to move, to rise and fall, and forming magnetic fields that both attract and repulse, causing the cloud to take on a spherical shape but not to collapse onto itself.
Or something like that. As I understand from a first reading.
Fascinating stuff. _________________ Karagin Only the dead have seen the end of war. - Plato
