Has anyone done much of this? If some could you tell us how the fight went and what kind of mechs worked for you in this kind of battle? _________________ Karagin Only the dead have seen the end of war. - Plato

Expect your battle to be over in about 30 minutes, 29 of which you'll spend maneuvering just to get to each other. Seriously, 'Mechs are NOT designed to fight underwater battles. They die quickly with the optional underwater rules. If you know you're fighting an underwater battle, take lots of torpedoes. _________________ Mordel Blacknight - Site Administrator

It was over fast. And my opponent hated me. His unit had just altered his Goliath with new technology, armor and weaponry. And I flooded out the better half of his weapons in a single torpedo strike from the enemy sub.
Fighting in space is worse though. All your weapons and such work there, but things still die incredibly quickly.
The side with torpedoes and subs has a big advantage in water. 'Mechs are out of their element there, submarines are king. Undine battle armor as well to some extent. _________________ Jarylan Blackwell

We once had a battle in a marshy area with a lot of deep ponds. Hatamoto-Chi with torpedoes killed a pristine Dire Wolf by with leg hits when it entered depth 1 water that had a LOS to the pond where the Hatamoto was hiding. BAPs don't can't reach there unless you submerge them so the HTM could score another kill (no idea what was the second thing) before it was finally caught while relocating from one pond to another. Withour rear CT armor it could no longer hide...
Anyone tried the UMUs? _________________ The dragon NEVER sleeps!

I once designed a scenario that was built around an underground base that could only be reached by an under water entrance or a long trek through tunnels. Never got to play it though.
The only under water fighting I have done was incidental to the main battle. Between Seraph and I we have flooded each others mech several times. There is nothing more useless than a perfectly fine mech who has a minor hull breech that puts it out of commision.

I ran an underwater scenario at TotalCon last year...24 mechs eliminated in under 2 hours. _________________ www.210sportsblog.com

Our first underwater battle (in the old level 1 times!) was a much thought of disaster!
On the one side we had a lance of SteelCrab custom-mechs (45t, 6/9, 2 SRT-6, 2 MdL, 1 SmL, almost full armor) and on the other we had 2 lances of Ammonit Strike Submarines (30t, 4/6 ICE, 3 SRT-6, 5,5t armor).
While moving to combat-range 2 of the mechs fell down, one of them breaching its right torso nearly cutting its weapons to half!
In the first combat-round 3 Subs were lost due to hull breaching! One Mech went down with a flooded cockpit and another one with a breached CT!
So in our first real round we lost half our Mechs and nearly half our Subs!!
Next round we lost 2 Subs and 1 Mech!!!
All due to hull breaching!!
After 5 rounds the only surviving machine was a Sub!
We agreed that all of our machines have self-sealing capabilities!!
A hull breach on a roll of 10+ means a chance of about 16% so 1 of 6 hits will lead to one!
If you play with this rules forget about lasers and PPC´s : take LRT for the range and SRT for the kill!! _________________ Reality is where the Pizza-man comes from!'Gucken, petzen, verpissen!' i used logic to allow a house rule use of a lvl 3 item... component armor.
since the rules for hull breach says that you treat all items in that section as having suffered a crit until dried and maintained i reasoned that component armor could absorb the first crit without affecting the item protected. a true crit flooded the item as per rules since the sealed encasement was now breached.
it really changes underwater combat as mechs designed for it [quad, 4/6 at least, and with component armor on key systems] could now compete very well underwater even heavily out gunned do to the immense weight of component armor. _________________ one must work hard to cultivate the mind and body. and one must always cultivate the mind.
