I was going through a pile of old books the other day, and found an old Dragon magazine. Glancing through it I found 2 interesting ads:
1- Technical Readout 2750- which I think was the official introduction of Level II tech
2- The first "Clan invasion" novel by Stackpole
Then I realized that the magazine was published _20 years ago_! Has it really been so long? I thought that the "classic" part of CBT was silly, but it makes a bit more sense when I see it in this light.
Now I feel old

It all depends on how old you were then...

11, but I don't remember hearing about the Clans until high school, at the earliest. I would think that anyone who loved giant fighting robots as much as my fifth-grade self would keep up with all the latest developments. If I had been paying more attention, I wouldn't have been so shocked to discover gauss rifles while driving a Level 1 light mech.
"It did how much damage!?!"

Hehehe... Reminds me of the game I played this one time. I had a 6/9 mech but was going 4/6 the whole time and only firing half my weapons for the first few turns. She finally took the bait and I was able to run behind her. She was like "How fast can you move?" and then when I fired all my weapons she got pissed and stormed out.
I love surprising players. Especially if it makes them mad! _________________ Mordel Blacknight - Site Administrator

Kinda like the session a year or so back where I had the party go up against infantry that had SRMs.
The party had gotten used to the prospect of infantry just being something that went "squish" when their mechs stepped on them. They didn't expect the things to be more dangerous than the L1 Cataphract they were staring down. _________________ "I wish I could write as mysterious as a cat." -Edgar Allen Poe"I knew there was something special about you, but I never realized you were really a cat." I've fallen into the trap of underestimating both infantry and vehicles. You learn quickly that while they are not mechs, they can still be very dangerous! _________________ Mordel Blacknight - Site Administrator

Ugh... vehicles. Did I ever mention the time Seraph ambushed me with a pair of Demolisher II's and a pair of Zhukovs with clan ACs? He hid them in a little gully, I came over the top of the hill and at a full barrage at 3 or 4 range. Can we say FUUUUU.... sorry, transmission ends there in a burst of static _________________ Colonel Ralgith t'Mayasara Blighted Sun Battalion 1st Company 'Ralgith's Renegades'

My cousin Marc used Savannah Masters loaded with Explosives as contact mines. He would race a half dozen in on RC, and smash them into the mechs.
Boom!!!!
Of the leg....

I just use them as-is; nothing frustrates the heck out of a party like a patrol of Savannah Masters who have the advantage of terrain. _________________ "I wish I could write as mysterious as a cat." -Edgar Allen Poe"I knew there was something special about you, but I never realized you were really a cat."
