For my BTech group, considering how long it's been since we've last played and how many players we've lost, I'm looking to put a timeskip in place and say that the party simply finished off the last campaign; money-wise, they broke even.
The party went from a trio of mercs to what is - on paper - a combined arms battalion consisting of mechs, armor, infantry, VTOLs, and support vehicles; they even have a Union at their disposal. However, as most of their growth was due to battlefield salvage they have more vehicles than actual crew members to operate them. And even if they had enough crew, they lack sufficient support staff to maintain anything larger than their current status.
The campaign itself involved the trio being hired for peacekeeping duties on Caph; a group of bandits was attacking all of the different factions, and the party was called upon to help Lindon's strengthen its presence. It later turned out that the bandits were really down-on-their-luck mercs and criminals hired by the WoB to justify sending a "peacekeeping" force to the planet in an effort to wrest control. Thanks to the party running interference while the different factions got themselves together, the WoB force will be kicked off the planet.
Given this, I'd like people to take a quick look at some possible contracts I'm looking to offer my party and see what they think of them given the party's size and limitations:
1. One of the factions, which is technically Davion-aligned but in actuality has other plans, hires the party away from Lindon's to serve as a garrison force on Caph. On the surface, it'll seem like a simple garrison job. In reality, the Lyran Alliance was so horrified by the prospect of nearly losing the planet that they're sending in their own invasion force; as the party offended the LA garrison's commanders, the party will now be a prime target. If the party succeeds in repulsing their portion of the LA invasion, then the faction which hired them will unveil a trump card: they discovered a Star League weapons depot and successfully converted it into a production factory. The sudden presence of Star League-era designs, including a few "new" designs that were abandoned as prototypes, will turn the tide in favor of the Davions. The Lyran Alliance will be ejected from the planet, meaning that the remaining pro-Lyran forces inside Davion territory will slowly start suffocating as the Lyran Alliance won't be able to back them up.
2. The same faction mentioned above wants the group to go to Sheratan and help the remaining Davion forces fend off the Cappellan presence. In the process, they'll also fight off an incursion from the Duchy of Small. It turns out that the Duchy has thrown in with the WoB, and the incursion is the Duchy's way of testing some new ground vehicle designs. If the party halts the incursion, the Duchy will be left hanging in the breeze as they won't have the capability to launch another one.
3. Red Devil Industries up on Pandora wants to hire the mercs as extra security owing to what appears to be rumblings in Jade Falcon territory. The party arrives right before the Falcons launch their invasion. If the party successfully holds out against the Falcons, then the Falcons will have to pivot back slightly and send forces that had been slated for a later wave back to Pandora for another round. This will result in a few of the Lyran planets who would have otherwise fallen instead being spared.
4. A somewhat mysterious group with apparent ties to Rasalhague wants the party to conduct a campaign against a group of "invaders." In reality, they want the party to spear-head an assault on the Falcon-held planet of Jabuka. If the party does enough damage to the garrison force, the Falcons will be forced to pivot back around and send troops that would have been used to invade the Lyran Alliance back around to Jabuka in an effort to keep it from falling. News of the party's deeds will shame the Rasalhague government into sending a strike force to assist the party and encourage the Wolves to contest a few Falcon border worlds; the combined effect will be to force the Falcons to choose between the Lyran invasion or keeping their own worlds safe. Either way, Jabuka will be retaken by the FRR. _________________ "I wish I could write as mysterious as a cat." -Edgar Allen Poe"I knew there was something special about you, but I never realized you were really a cat."
