Over on CBT, the new Battleblog says that LAMs are coming back with a new rule set...
With that in mind what changes would you folks like to see done with the LAMs and how they work and fight in the BT universe? _________________ Karagin Only the dead have seen the end of war. - Plato

I say that the only change that is needed is how the LAM version of the unit operate. I'd say marry the Aero rules and Mech rules with the WiG rules. It removes the abuse that jumping 12+ hexes caused but still gives it flexibility. The only other thing i can think of is rules for extra fuel for the Aero version; maybe special crits for fuel in the torsos.
Also, a clarification on how the wings for aero and LAM versions work in contrast to Mech version.
And curious how the armor differences between Aero and Mechs will be resolved.
I'm pleased to see there return if its real. They were never OMG powerful in comparison to standard Aeros and Mechs. _________________ one must work hard to cultivate the mind and body. and one must always cultivate the mind.

For me LAM = LAME

I am hoping that LAMs are not allowed to use certain items, nor can they carry bombs or external ordnance. At least I hope they put some limits on these types of mechs.
Lets' see you have both Biped and Quad LAMs, rules as currently written never ruled out Quad LAMs...lets' hope they plug a lot of the loop holes. _________________ Karagin Only the dead have seen the end of war. - Plato

Let's also hope that Michael Bay doesn't hear about this either. He might give LAMs testicles.

Yeah, Quad'Mech LAMs shouldn't exist. I recommend that new LAM rules require:
*a +1 heat point per standard jump jet used when jumpgliding in a turn (not +1 per jumpgliding hex)
*that the conversion equipment takes up five slots: one critical slot per arm, side torso, and head or center torso
*that the combustion chambers that provide thrust in aerofighter mode take up a number of critical slots equal to the LAM's engine rating divided by 100 (round all fractions up)
*that the landing gear takes up one critical slot per arm and side torso
*that each ton of fuel takes up a critical slot and no 30 points of fuel for free tonnage
*the LAM abides by aerospace fire control restrictions
*that during a turn a LAM converts from one mode to another a +3 modifier is applied to any determining critical hit table rolls
*that an AirMech has an additional +2 modifier when making any DFA attack in a turn
*that a LAM in any mode may carry one or more hand held weapon(s)
I'm glad rules for LAMs will be updated and republished. Time to throw a party.
Edited part: I'd also like for LAMs to be able to mount & use VTOL jet boosters in that said jet boosters take up a number of critical slots in left and right torsos equal to jet boosters total tonnage divided by 2 (round all decimals/fractions up). Jet boosters (when used by an AirMech) would not allow that AirMech to jumpglide laterally, and would provide jumpgliding MP in the same manner that standard jumpjets provide jumpgliding MP. I'd like for an AirMech to be able to use jumpjets & jet boosters in same turn.

No to quad LAMs.
As for bombs. I dont mind it but they should only be able to carry bombs in fighter mode and then NOT be able to change, until the bombs have been dropped. Also if they are carrying bombs they should only be able to carry half to a quarter of the weight of an aero/fighter. _________________ Stinger If it's "creepy" to use the Internet, military satellites, and robot aircraft to find a house full of gorgeous young models so I can drop in on them unexpected, then FINE, I'm "creepy". I agree with all of the above except that that an AirMech must have an additional +4 (not +2) modifier when making any DFA attack in a turn and it's not time to throw a party. I'll celebrate when LAM rules are in an updated Total Warfare book. I would like that a LAM has its conversion equipment have a tonnage equal to 5% of it's total tonnage, its aeroequipment has a tonnage equal to its Overthrust (Sprinting in aero mode) multiplied by the LAM's total tonnage divided by 200, and that a LAM has a +1 modifier applied to each Determining Critical Hits Table roll regardless of what mode (except mode changing) that LAM is in.

Not in Total Warfare. LAMs are a special equipment, something like jumping tanks. They certainly don't belong to tournament legal rules. _________________ The dragon NEVER sleeps!

I'd be happy if rules for LAMs were put in an updated Tactical Operations book. I don't know what good it would do having LAM rules in Total Warfare - that book currently slightly favors Clan players.

Sleeping Dragon and PlaywithLAMs, I disagree. The photo of the 'Mech (Marauder, MadCat?) on TW inside covers could be omitted for LAM rules. LAMs belong in TW because 1, there are many people that like transformable LAM like units (RoboTech fans, Gundam fans, Transformers fans, etc.) - such fans would certainly come over to CBT if LAMs were put in TW which would greatly increase sales of CBT products; 2, LAMs are a cross between 'Mechs and aeroplanes - both 'Mechs and aeroplanes each can mass up to 100 tons; 3, LAMs would attract more Inner Sphere players back to CBT (there's been much emphasis on Clan tournaments but not on Inner Sphere combined arms tournaments); and 4, LAMs are easier to comprehend than DropShips and airships - DropShips can block all kinds of LOSes and airship movement has to be recalculated each turn. Also, PlaywithLAMs, I think that the combustion chamber critical slots should equal the engine rating divided by 50 rounded up instead of 100 as you suggested (remember you have to account for Max Thrust and Sprinting Overthrust). I'd also like to prohibit LAMs from mounting reactive armor (the shaped explosive charges mounted on reactive armor would probably explode if a LAM mounting them transformed).
