Something I got to thinking about while cranking out some characters the other day.
Mechwarrior 3:
Stage 1 of the life paths ends at the age of 10. A good chunk of a person's upbringing and education have taken place during this point. A character can hypothetically come in to play right here, and in some nations child labor is allowed.
Stage 2 of the life paths ends at 16. At this point, the character has finished their primary education and may have even received early trade education. They are regarded as an adult at this point, and can even enter the military.
Pokemon:
A child is regarded as old enough to go on a pokemon journey once they turn 10. Ash, Gary, May, Dawn, and a few others were all canonically 10 when they started out.
A person is considered an adult at 16, with all the appropriate rights and privileges. Every last Jenny and Joy is canonically 16 - 18, as are recurring villains Jessie and James.
On other words, Pokemon and the MW3 character creation system sync up with each other.
Yeah.
*waits for Battletech / Pokemon crossover* _________________ "I wish I could write as mysterious as a cat." -Edgar Allen Poe"I knew there was something special about you, but I never realized you were really a cat." Wolfwood to a random cat (Trigun)

No, to Urbanmech IIC (duh)
Urbanmech and Jagermech (and Flashman) are different evolutionary branches of a common trashcan. _________________ The dragon NEVER sleeps!

Yes, I went ahead and did a MW3-style "Pokemon Trainer" life path. I had to do something to kill time while I was stuck at work last night.
Pokemon Trainer
Time: see "stage"
Skills: choose six: Career / Pokemon Trainer +1, Career / Pokemon Breeder +1, Career / Pokemon Coordinator +1, First Aid +1, Scrounge +1, Tracking +1, Survival +1, Swimming +1, Bureaucracy / Nation +1, Acting +1
Stage: This life path can be treated as either a Stage 2 path, a Stage 3 path, or a Stage 4 path. If taken as a Stage 2 path, the duration is as other paths. If taken as a Stage 3 or 4 path, it takes 2 years per pass.
Traits: Animal Empathy
Previous Path: any
Next Path: any allowed by faction
Fluff: [needs fluff]
Notes: by the very nature of this life path, the character should have at least six pokemon in their possession as of the end of their first pass through. Player and GM should work together and confer with the monster creation rules in the main MW3 manual in order to determine possible designs.
2 You prove to be so cruel and/or incompetent with your handling of your pokemon that your name becomes synonymous with gross negligence. (Animal Antipathy, Bad Reputation [5], Enemy / Battle Commission [2], can not take this path again.)
3 Know Team Rocket? You joined them. (Bad Reputation [3], In For Life. Next life path is either Ne'er-Do-Well, Travel, Yakuza, this path, or Civilian Job)
4 Even your own pokemon stopped believing in you. Now that's just sad. (Stigma / Failure [2], Lose three skills from the "skills" list)
5 Your contest performance was bad and you should feel bad. (Bad Reputation [1], Acting -1)
6 Travel broadened your horizons but emptied your wallet, necessitating that you pick up side jobs. (Career / Any +1, any one skill +1, poverty)
7 You did good out there, kid. Your home town is proud of you. (pick one skill from the "skills" list. Glory [2])
8 Eight gyms; eight gym badges. (pick one skill from the"skills" list. Glory [4])
9 Good job sweeping those contests. Here come the promotional deals. (Wealth +1, Well-Equipped +1, Glory [6])
10 Congratulations! You won the Grand Festival! (Acting +2, Wealth +2, Well-Equipped +2, Glory [8])
11 You met the champion. You beat the champion. Now, you *are* the champion. (Bureaucracy / Battle Commission +3, Protocol / Battle Commission +3, Wealth +3, Well-Equipped +3, Glory [10]; In For Life to reflect the fact that the character can and will continue to receive challenges even after going into a regular job. Must take any one Stage 3 or 4 path before repeating this life path again.)
12 (Pick any one event or roll twice and apply both.) _________________ "I wish I could write as mysterious as a cat." -Edgar Allen Poe"I knew there was something special about you, but I never realized you were really a cat." Wolfwood to a random cat (Trigun)

I revised the life path after a little bit of play-testing, taking it from 2d6 to 2d10.
(Bad Reputation [3],In For Life. Next life path is either Ne'er-Do-Well, Travel, Yakuza, this path, or Civilian Job)
4 Even your own pokemon stopped believing in you. Now that's just sad. (Stigma / Failure [2], Lose three skills from the "skills" list)
5 Unfortunately for you and/or your mon, there is a fine line between "pushing yourself" and "pushing yourself too hard".(choose either Bad Reputation [1] and Stigma / 1 [Bully] to represent being too hard on your mon or BOD -1 and EDG -1 to represent being too hard on yourself)
6 Your contest performance was bad and you should feel bad. (Bad Reputation [1], Acting -1)
7 Fortunately for you, your mon love you enough to where they worked to save your life after you had that accident; otherwise, you'd be crippled right now or even dead. (EDG +1, CHA -1, any other attribute -1.)
8 Travel broadened your horizons but emptied your wallet, necessitating that you pick up side jobs. (Career / Any +1, any one skill +1, Poverty)
9 If nothing else, at least you made some friends. (Contact 1, Contact 1)
10 You did good out there, kid. Your home town is proud of you. (pick one skill from the "skills" list. Glory [2])
11 You spent time helping out Nurse Joy down at the pokemon center. (Career / Pokemon Breeder +1, First Aid +1, MedTech +1,
Perception +1. Good Reputation [1], Contact / 1 [Nurse Joy].)
12 Thanks to you, Officer Jenny was able to crack an important case. (Career / Pokemon Trainer +1, Career / Police Officer +1, Career / Detective +1, Perception +1, Streetwise / (nation) +1, Good Reputation [1], Contact / 1 [Officer Jenny]. Choose one: Acrobatics +1, Computer Operations +1, Running +1, Security Systems +1.)
13 Eight gyms; eight gym badges. (pick one skill from the"skills" list. Glory [4])
14 Good job sweeping those contests. Here come the promotional deals. (Wealth +1, Well-Equipped +1, Glory [6])
15 You found yourself apprenticed to the local pokemon doctor. (Character gains the Scientist and Doctor skill fields at +1 points per skill instead of +3.)
16 Congratulations! You won the Grand Festival! (Acting +2, Wealth +2, Well-Equipped +2, Glory [8])
17 You and your mon claw your way to the top of the League, winning the main tournament after several hard-fought battles. (Career / Pokemon Trainer +1, Career / Pokemon Breeder +1, WIL +1, EDG +1, Glory [9].)
18 You met the champion.
19 (Pick any one event or roll twice and apply both.)
20 (Pick any two events or roll three times and apply all three.) _________________ "I wish I could write as mysterious as a cat." -Edgar Allen Poe"I knew there was something special about you, but I never realized you were really a cat." Wolfwood to a random cat (Trigun)

Couple ideas for some "mon" for the campaign; just want to see what everyone thinks.
[unnamed fire penguin]
These penguins have sacs in their torsos that they can use to store water... water that is eventually brought to a boil by their incredibly warm internal body temperature. Although most of them use it as a personal water storage similar to a camel, they also have the ability to spit it at hostile targets, scalding them badly. Normal critters are a mix of red and orange, but "shiny" yellow ones have such a high body temperature that you could potentially light a cigarette off of them (which would be a bad idea, as they also tend to be somewhat cranky and prone to biting).
[unnamed water elephant]
These surprisingly small animals - about the size of a St. Bernard - can handle virtually any environment but prefer to live in and near bodies of water and the mud pits that surround them. They have an incredible ability to navigate around in this terrain, giving them an advantage in finding food and avoiding predators.
[unnamed owl]
This bright green species of owl not only looks like a cactus, it can sting like a cactus if a person is not careful in handling them; not only are the quills on this creature similar to those on a porcupine, a full third of these quills do not have feathers on them. As these quills grow back, many such animals will use them to pierce their meals and any predators they come upon.
Wind Dogs
These large canines, similar to a shaggy Great Dane, do not derive their name from any sort of meteorological ability nor any sort of ability to fly. Rather, they take their name from the noxious winds that accompany these animals wherever they go. These animals are loyal like a normal canine, and can similarly be trained; in fact, they are popular guard dogs. However, it is recommended that anyone who will be handling them directly wear a gas mask of some sort.
[unnamed sheep]
This species of sheep and ram appear to be living examples of the term "steel wool". Their wool is so coarse that it is actually as abrasive as low-end sandpaper, making it common for use in abrasive pads, "organic" toothbrushes, and sweaters for unpopular family members. _________________ "I wish I could write as mysterious as a cat." -Edgar Allen Poe"I knew there was something special about you, but I never realized you were really a cat."
