Ok, I just opened my copy of TRO 3085.

Why is it that the Shadow Hawk LAM on p. 290 has a mass of 55 tons, yet its conversion equipment has a mass of 9 tons? A LAM's conversion equipment is supposed to mass 10% of said LAM's total tonnage; so the Shadow Hawk's conversion equipment should mass 5.5 tons, not 9 tons. The Stinger, Wasp, and Phoenix Hawk LAMs each mass 30 tons, 30 tons, and 50 tons respectively; yet their conversion equipments mass 3 tons, 3 tons, and 5 tons respectively.

Why is there no AirMech jumpgliding cruise & flank MP listed for the Shadow Hawk?

Also, why do LAM fusion engines mass more than the masses of fusion engines of the same rating for BattleMechs and OmniMechs? Is this because of their aerofighter mode combustion chambers & exhaust nozzles?

The Shadow Hawk LAM is a more primtive, bi-modal LAM.

That is why it comes before the other LAMs. It can only use 'Mech and Fighter modes, not the LAM mode. And it even has to pay more weight for that.

They're basing this off of the mythical Shad LAM from the fluff text in the old 3025, right?

Then yeah - they have an "out" in regards to things being a touch heavier since the fluff clearly stated that it was an early - and unworkable - design.

Of course, that doesn't stop any of us from creating a Shad LAM using old-school LAM rules...

So are the fusion engines for those three Land=Air Mechs supposed to be heavier than fusion engines of the same rating for BattleMechs and OmniMechs because those fusion engines for those LAMs are prototypes also?

Fusion Engines were refined into the "current" form (TechManual, p. 49) in the decades leading up to 2500, depending on realm.

LAMs were introduced, what, in the 2620s?

So despite their initial, general prototypical status, the LAMs' fusion engines were well refined at the time.
