1. This would be more appropriate for the news & politics forum.
2. The shooter was mentally ill, and I've seen reports indicating that the incident may have been in response to his mother seeking to have him institutionalized.
3. The weapons he used were his mother's; he himself had been denied gun ownership after he failed a background screen.
4. One of the bits with role-playing is that you can often get away with things that the rules don't immediately allow for. Want a character who won't kill the enemy if they can help it? Role-play out how the character would engage in combat.

1. I wanted to post this topic on The Saoon forum but Mordel hasn't enabled me to post on that forum yet.
2. That's what I've heard.
3. His mother should've had her guns locked in a combination lock gun safe.
4. "Nonlethal" ammo is sort of a misnomer. An example is super polymer ammo that, when shot from an AC/2 from a 'Mech towards an infantry trooper, can immobilize that trooper (or suffocate him/her if it stops him from breathing through his/her nose & mouth). Of course the 'MechPerson (notice I'm not using the word 'MechPerson in place of MechWarrior given how that the guy that did those shootings had a fascination with wargaming and Congress is going to study the effects of media violence a much more intense study than before) can be expected to be safe inside the 'Mech's armor when compared to that infantry trooper's weapon's damage potential.

When it comes to the autocannons, take the rating and multiply it by 10. That's the rough size of the round in millimeters.
For example, an AC/2 would be a 20mm round.
Even if it's rubber or polymer, a round that size is very probably going to put someone down for the count due to such factors as "size" and "velocity".
The AC/5 comes out to be a 50mm weapon, which is what some WWII-era combat vehicles carried. There is no "very probably" at this point; any impact would likely be fatal.
The AC/10 comes out to be 100mm, which is "combat tank" territory. Not only would it be fatal, we're looking at major trauma.
The AC/20 comes out to be 200mm, which is what heavy units like the Merkava sport. Even an Elemental would be naught but a bloody smear.

Yeah, I studied the ACs and their millimeter sizes according to the fluff.
The rubber or super polymer shots used against infantry could be designed with less propellant so that those shots "tap" the infantry at slower speeds instead of "shove" at higher speeds against infantry.
Energy soundwave generators can stun infantry also.

| I didn't want too little velocity; I mean the amount of super polymer or rubber shot would probably be at most no more than half the mass of a destructive shot.

you effectively render the weapon useless at that point.

| The ammo's mass gets halved, not the AC weapon's mass gets halved. The super polymer shell breaks open and the super polymer splashes onto the infantry person or the rubber shot simply knocks down the infantry person (like getting hit in the chest with a hammer).
