So TRO: 3145 - Mercenaries was released recently as a PDF, apparently the first of eight in a series that covers the "Dark Age" era.
When TRO: 3085 was released, it was slammed pretty hard in this forum. What about this one?
Heh, the second post in the 3085 thread is about Plog, who is the only artist of this entry in the 3145 series. I thought he did a heck of a job...

Somethings look good, others meh...he is really good at taking other artwork or drawings and reworking them, but his own stuff yeah stuff just looks off or what should IMO be battle battle armor they have the art work being used for mechs. He does well with vehicles though.

Well, he was really busy reworking existing designs in this TRO. Out of the 'Mechs, only the Hound is a wholly original creation. (I think he's channeling the Daikyu in it, which IMO is a nice path to take.)
The Marauder BA, the Testudo Tank, and the ProtoMech and Aero units are also original pics, all others are reworks of existing sources.
What about the writing and the stats?

Honestly it was okay, most of the items tied to the RAF, so really the idea that this stuff was for mercs based on the title not so much. Fluff, I really think going back to the style and feel of entries in the original TRO3025 would be best to give tings that lived in feel.

It's not bad at all IMO. I'm not entirely bought on Cardinal, Mad Cat mk. IV design-wise, but most pictures look good. I'm not sure what the Spectre actually walks upon. 7 XL engine machines : 3 standard is not exactly the ratio I prefer, but at least they are not obviously wasting the space most of the time (it was but a first glance though.
I wonder what will actual TRO 3145 be like.

Much more XL madness to come. One rationale is that engine technology will have advanced to a point where the current c-bill ratios simply don't work anymore.
It's great to come here, even as quiet as it is these days, and simply chat a bit about these juggernauts.

It looks better but has some things that need work. They layout is good, the background on the units is good. Some of Plog's artwork is good, but the battlearmor yeah no it looks like it was never finished.
I do like the Predator an old Battletechnology vehicle submission brought back to life via an upgrade and that is a nice way to take old and new together.
Now are all of these smaller TROs going to become one big one or what?

I think that the 3145 TRO will contain more general equipment with less experimental tech, but that's just my personal guess.

Well, I've finished reading this one and it strikes me that a lot of the 'Mechs either pack some serious design flaws or are rather ugly. Anyone else here dislikes Avalanche and Wedingo art?

Most of the art is done by Plog he isn't their best artist...the Combine TRO 3145 has some decent art...Wish they would get Long or some of the original artist like 3025 or 2750 to make a quest showing or something...

These are not Plog's manga. These things look almost as ugly as 3050 Imp after getting some work, but I can't help myself and have to note that this guy makes all feet look overly large (capellan TRO was far worse IMO). Probably these 'mechs will look better as minis.
