Yes I know sounds like an American rules football game but no sorry not that. Let see what you all think about the 3025 (Dragoon) Falcon vs the 3025 Panther from TRO3025 (Original).
Four standard maps, both pilots have 4/5 stats and the weather is light fog. _________________ Karagin Only the dead have seen the end of war. - Plato

my money would be on the panther 3 out of 5 games.
The Falcon is an over sized Stinger. I feel the Panther on most maps could cripple it before it could bite the Panther. _________________ one must work hard to cultivate the mind and body. and one must always cultivate the mind.

I'd also vote for the Panther over the Mickey Mous 'mech, although it can survive repeated PPC hits, so it's not decisively better. _________________ The dragon NEVER sleeps!

Well the maps are given with weather so take that into account as well. _________________ Karagin Only the dead have seen the end of war. - Plato

So the fog and the trees won't hurt the Panther's main weapon? _________________ Karagin Only the dead have seen the end of war. - Plato

it will, but a ppc still has a better chance than 1 ml and 2 sl. _________________ one must work hard to cultivate the mind and body. and one must always cultivate the mind.

Not disagreeing I am just wondering if you are putting to much faith in the PPC hit more then missing with modifiers it suffers once the fight moves in close. _________________ Karagin Only the dead have seen the end of war. - Plato

The panther is fast enough in comparison to to get 4 to 6 hexes from the Falcon when it wins init. It gets at least 2 or 3 pot shots on the way in. I just feel that its more capable in this fight. Now if the Falcon had used 3 or 4 MLs rather then 1 ml, 2 sl, and 2 mgs (rear) then i'd have put more faith in it. _________________ one must work hard to cultivate the mind and body. and one must always cultivate the mind.

A competent Panther pilot will only lose that battle when the Falcon pilot gets lucky...and even then, the Falcon pilot might need to get lucky more than a couple times in the duel to win. _________________ www.210sportsblog.com

The jump distance difference would ensure the Falcon some (crummy +3) back shots against the Panther on a winning initiative. Playing creatively around water and forest would help make those back shots a bad idea, combined with a torso twist and arm's reach.
That PPC paired with a SRM critseeker pack will definitely give Panter the advantage. However I don't see Light Fog giving any modifiers for ranged attacks per current edition of "Tactical Operations" or capping LOS at a distance, only movement minuses that can be circumvented by another optional rule - or am I missing something?
If there's no modifiers for attacks at range, and even heavy fog would just give a blanket +1, that PPC would be a blessing against a fog-slowed Falcon. The Panther pilot has a clear cut advantage around 7-12 hexes' range with the 2d6 bell curve. And the plain fact of comparing a PPC to a medium laser as the Big Gun on a mech. Both of them mount theirs on an arm, so they're likely to get blown off, but a Panther's secondary still gives a 9 hex range.
The Falcon pilot will in all likelihood depend on getting up close and personal to realize that mech's damage potential, but it'll take risking some PSRs to dash in the Light Fog. A smart Panther pilot will probably take the same approach toward each semi-fast 3025 light mech, using that range advantage on a closing-in opponent.
1v1 fights tend to be more about winning initiative rolls consecutively, though
