What would you all consider the best custom 3/5/0 or 3/5/3, Level 1, Intro tech, 100 ton custom assault mech out there.
I assume that it would need to be good at long range, and fairly good at short range.
What would this design have on it?

"Best" is very much subjective, as each mech is designed for a different purpose and mission. _________________ "I wish I could write as mysterious as a cat." -Edgar Allen Poe"I knew there was something special about you, but I never realized you were really a cat." The Awesome is pretty simple to pilot for beginners thanks to the unified armament it has. You only need to keep the enemy out of minimum range, watch your heat and you are golden. If you need something larger and custom then try similar designs.
From customs posted here I'd rather avoid most of them, but try PLG-2L1 Pillager.

Thanks Sleeping Dragon, that was a helpful link.
So far it seems as if the most appropriate way to evaluate the best intro tech 100 ton mech is by BV. It seems that the higher the BV the better the mech. So, based off this fact, what is the highest BV 100 ton intro tech mech that you can make?

Highest BV with basic rules and 100t category? I think it would involve good armour (not necessarily full), 3/5/3 speed, PPC(s), LRMs, medium lasers and heat sinks to keep it all going without much overheat. High BV still doesn't make it the best though. _________________ The dragon NEVER sleeps!

The highest BV canon design on here that is 100t and Introductory is the Marauder II MAD-4A (http://www.mordel.net/tro.php?a=vt&id=232). _________________ Mordel Blacknight - Site Administrator

Actually there are two custom 'Mechs that have higher BV. The Pillager I've linked and 8E Atlas. Mekslayer specifically asked for custom units. _________________ The dragon NEVER sleeps!
