Hey guys. XTRO Republic I is out. I'm half scared and half excited at bringing that "news" to this forum.
Scared, because it's not really that big a deal. And Mordel's hasn't exactly been enthusiastic about the (tech) developments of the BT universe in the (recent...?) past.
Excited, because I wrote the damned thing. And because Mordel's is where it all started for me. Without this place (and its predecessors) I wouldn't be, well, me!
So even at risk of generating exactly no interest whatsoever, Mordel's is always going to be the first place I run to with any and all BT news.
Thanks always for the ride, guys. _________________ "Rear armour is defeatist!" - unknown Kuritan Mechwarrior

That's awesome!! I'll definitely check it out.
As for tech, I had been behind but am starting to get all the advanced stuff from TO in and will eventually get the other stuff since then. It's time-consuming, but it's going. I've been inputting all the units as well from every book as I go, so eventually the ones in your list will make it as well. _________________ Mordel Blacknight - Site Administrator

It is not so much that we are against "new tech" as against stupid err..."less than well thought out ideas". We do NOT want universe altering stuff just on a whim or need to sell a few books. _________________ The JadeDragon

The problem with new tech mostly isn't that they are new, but rather that they are used recklessly. Just a bunch of new things thrown in a bag. _________________ The dragon NEVER sleeps!

Well, in this one I tried quite hard to encompass existing sources - even if said sources aren't all that old. But, set in 3120, it was a real task tying FM + TRO 3085, ER + FM 3145, ED DA, TRO Prototypes and a few scant novel references together. Then making sure that the old RS: MWDA1 were not forgotten. And honoring a few of the MWDA miniatures. Oh, and the Roadrunner. Couldn't skip that one.
I didn't try to be kewl in unit design - it was about crafting a story, in the end.
I think I may have learnt that at Mordel's, more than 15 years ago. Units that were praised were the ones with a good story.
But then... the Castrum really does break the universe a bit. Oh well, there had to be one "full retard" unit in there.

Harumph. Guilty as charged. But hopefully not on every unit! _________________ "Rear armour is defeatist!" - unknown Kuritan Mechwarrior

Not sure what you mean? Yeah, the XTROs are... idiosyncratic, but I believe that's partially their point.
Mind you, XTRO Republic I is *not* like the normal XTROs. In terms of design style, it's probably most closely comparable to TRO 3145.
Case in point, two units' stats are from 2003, one unit's stats are from 1993. _________________ "Rear armour is defeatist!" - unknown Kuritan Mechwarrior

I did like the inclusion of the Roadrunner, it was nice to see it. Overall the idea that everything needs to be super tech and cool when the now canon claims everyone is getting rid of their military kind goes against the story line, but I guess that is needed for the rest to work.
Over all the TROs are different and while some are better then others, most do over board on the let's pile all into a mech or vehicle and then really do nothing to explain why etc...
As for normal designed when compared to what as a baseline? _________________ Karagin Only the dead have seen the end of war. - Plato
